it wasn't horse novels were very popular among young boys but then wartime came and they started selling children's novels centered around piloting fighter planes a la red baron
and because young girls at the time only had books centered around how to be like proper woman. horse books quickly became a guilty pleasure as boys lost interest and then over time horsing became a woman's hobby
