There are few things I care about less than coffee. I have two big cups every morning: light and sweet, preferably in cardboard cup. Any bodega will do. I don’t want to wait for my coffee. I don’t want some man-bun, Mumford and Son motherfucker to get it for me. I like good coffee but I don’t want to wait for it, and I don’t want it with the cast of Friends. It’s a beverage; it’s not a lifestyle.

It's not even just about nationalism. I'm a lefty and I hate tourism because of the pointless overconsumption it generates, because of the lack of respect tourists have towards locals, and because most tourism is done not because of any real purpose or enrichment, rather it's done to farm social capita by posting garbage photos and selfies online so you can farm likes and feel less lonely through the sheer virtue of having spent money to be at a different place, not because you actually created anything of value.

In my opinion tourism outside of designated areas and cities designed around it is disrespectful. Places like Vegas and Disney World are acceptable tourist destinations, not places where people are trying to live. All you're doing by going there is sucking resources away

And before you say anything about Vegas, it is a rare if not the only example of people being stupid and moving into a tourist town and pretending it can or should be anything else. It's not meant to be a major metropolis, it's supposed to be a desert town with a strip of casinos. Making it into a shittier LA/Phoenix was a mistake.

You realize that one of the reasons why people are being forced to live in pods is tourism, right? Wealthy investory buy up houses to turn them into short term rental services (airbnb) because it's more profitable than to allow an individual to buy and own said house. I'm a lefty, not a liberal, I want high quality social housing to be provided for free to every working citizen.

Eating is a profoundly important part of most people's lives. I'd say only the ultra rich cannot get a meaningful eating experience because they have everything so immediately available.

So yeah, I'd say that cooking is an art, because it absolutely does have the power to stir up emotions, just like any song or painting. It's incidental that it is also a household chore.

I do agree that some chefs take themselves way too seriously. I'm a doctor, and you can find that kind of personality in my field as well. No one likes those.

Neither eating or cooking make a trip special. You have food at home. I can't imagine wanting to take time out of your live to travel to a far away destination for something as mundane or trivial as eating. My last trip I ate MRE's and McDonalds.

Gay people and middle aged women, who dislike video games, probably ARE the target demographic for artisinal household chores. Boomers and dullard women no doubt are the majority of consumers for cook books and home renovation shows (which do place a lot of emphasis on toilets).

Also I guarantee you most death row inmates, if give the choice between a holiday-destination Thai prostitute or a Michelin Star meal would take the hooker.

Yeah, I guess it's an attempt to create an "authentic" image. Like, "I don't like fancy frou frou Zanzibar Medium Arabica Roast, I only like unpretentious cheap coffee." It still flies over my head, though. I really like mixing together M&Ms and Sour Patch Kids and eating them at the same time, but I wouldn't expect anyone else to find that interesting.

This is not a ranking, Anon.

Pretty much everyone can appreciate a painting on some degree. You can't say the same about video games.

>Gay people and middle aged women, who dislike video games, probably ARE the target demographic for artisinal household chores

Who cares if they're "the target" (of whatever the fuck that may be)? The point stands: pretty much everyone will have something to say about food, and the emotions it can create. That was my statement from the beginning. The expertise and capacity to make you feel something is what I compared to art, as opposed to taking a shit or cleaning a toilet. You're arguing against an universal truth just because you don't think it's special. There are centuries worth of literature making a fuss about food. There's a fuckton of paintings depicting food. You eat the body of Christ, drink his blood. Food has meaning.

Convenience stores don't have fresh food, unless you count roller dogs
Bodega = deli run by mexicans
Deli = bodega run by kikes
Both will serve you coffee in a paper cup that says "we are happy to serve you", which comes from the Greeks.

isn't developing industries just as if not more pollutive and uglifying than just keeping a touristy place going? I can see if you get priced out of an entire town because of tourist dollars raising everything but it's also supporting businesses and the country to spend tourist money there. I get the arguments against tourism but I'm not going to feel bad for visiting your country, appreciating it if you let me, and then leaving.

There are few things I care about less than food. I have two big meals every day: warm and savoury, preferably on a paper plate. Any drive through will do. I don’t want to wait for my food. I don’t want some Jewish, rockstar heroin addict motherfucker to get it for me. I like good food but I don’t want to wait for it, and I don’t want it with the cast of The Bear. It’s sustenance; it’s not a lifestyle.
