Seinfeld went all in on humor with a cast of characters who are morally reprehensible. All good humor has a person or animal as the butt of a joke. That's just how it is. It paved the way for shows like family guy, because it is a hateful show.

You can compare it to Jerry Seinfeld's actual standup, his observational humor. It's just not very funny. Larry David was the engine of the show, not Seinfeld. You can find more humor like it in Curb Your Enthusiasm, OP. Larry David is a stellar writer, director, and comedic actor, and I say this as somebody who hates jews and wishes the holocaust had actually happened.
