It’s also pretentious as fuck. And I don’t necessarily mean that in a bad way. The Family Guy joke about how The Godfather insists upon itself is accurate. They knew when they were filming that they were making a cinematic museum piece and they slap you upside the head with it in virtually every scene. There are no scenes or dialogue that are there simply for plot utility. Everything is slow, deliberate, grandiose, important.
TLDR: it huffs its own farts but it’s somewhat deserved
