Just buy the pickups from Gibson and put them in an epiphone, it's the same machine mill program cutting the wood, sure there won't be the custom sanding and stuff or high end hardware but the average ear won't be able to tell the difference in tone, your fingers might but it'll be about half the price and you'll learn a lot.

Eh... it's mostly the pickups anon. I'm not saying the wood doesn't make a difference but it's like 80/20 you can put those pickups in a dinky alder body and have it sound pretty damn close. I've done this a lot and I've built guitars from scratch on a cnc. The difference will be subtle for you and completely unnoticeable to 99% of the population.
Just giving you a pro tip anon. If you don't want to spend 4 grand you can spend about 1500 and you'll be so close it won't really matter.
