He's ostracized way before killing anyone, and after he basically saves a family of French nobles survive the winter. Doesn't even have to kill animals, the monster subsists on nuts and berries. Only after the kid goes "uhhh, my father is the MAYOR and he'll have you killed, you freak" is that the monster snaps his neck. And goddamn it's a relatable moment.

the monster is literally an incel who's rejected by society for his ugliness and who thinks that if he gets a girlfriend, it would fix everything
