I don't think that equates to the specific franchise which started out as porn to still be relevant all these years later. People who did porn in the past can still be relevant for non-porn works to this day (even if it's just an AOTS) like the authors behind Nagatoro, Dragonmaid and Higurashi.

In the case of Higurashi, it is because a lot of the original official art was done by Sakai Kyuuta, the character designer for the series, who is a big yuri fan and has also done the character designs for a number of actual yuri anime (Strawberry Panic, Sakura Trick, Kase-san, and Sono Hanabira). The more recent stuff is probably just following suit since it is popular with fans.

Lately pop up stores and gacha campaigns have become more popular for finished series. Some company is probably working with publishers, and the artist just needs to supply some reused assets or make a a couple new pieces of art to promote it while the company produces a variety of merch to sell.
