>I know more lesbian/bi yuri fans who don't really care much about yaoi than those who do.
I know plenty who like both myself.

What is this yuri that so assuredly alienates men? I brought up butch characters because it's the closest thing I can think of, but even in that case, a lot of men online enjoy basically everything and quite a lot of yuri enjoyed hugely by women features exceptionally feminine characters all around. Well, the actual best example of something mainly women are drawn to would be stuff made by authors who found their fame through yaoi and features explicitly yaoi-like dynamics, but my attempts to promote "fujoshi yuri" on here have mostly fallen on deaf ears.
The idea that the majority of queer feminist theory adherents would overwhelmingly support the kind of women who contribute to "Onee-Loli Yuri Anthology", or even the moe teenager "sexualization" of the Bocchi manga, is silly. Japanese liberal feminist Yukari Fujimoto even pointed out on her Twitter that it's very rare to find a western academic willing to accept such works (either in general or with regards to its appeal in LGBT Japanese nerd spaces) and was glad to finally find someone like-minded.

>Politics that don't even originate in Japan.
Certain people are going to claim this is wrong, but Yoshida straight up admits to being very ideologically inspired by America. But yeah, while Japan as an overall culture might be a different thing, the manga industry is immensely better than the American comics industry at supporting a very wide variety of female authors and fans. Anime is more male-driven on the staff side, but it still knows very well to appeal to women. They don't really need to "learn from America" how to appeal to women more.
