ZenKowa chapter 22 summary.

Kudou keeps manipulating the class against Naoi. Her next step is to convince Isanuma that Naoi was the mastermind behind all of her misfortune and that Kurumi was only being manipulated by Naoi. Also, that the rumor that Kurumi was dating their teacher must've been spread by Naoi (it was Mine). She also tells Isanuma that she had to quit attending school because of Naoi.

Meanwhile, Naoi's trying to act normally with Kurumi despite a flashback showing what happened at the diner last chapter. Naoi met with her mother and her mom invited her to come live with her. Her mom is also seemingly pregnant and seems to have remarried. Her mom gives Naoi her phone number and gives her time to think over her answer. Naoi goes home and it turns out that Naoi's mom put a note in their mailbox presumably informing Naoi's dad about her intention to take Naoi. Naoi and her dad get into an argument and he hits her.

Kurumi realizes that something is wrong with Naoi, but is planning to give Naoi time, so that Naoi will come to her when she's ready to talk. In the meantime, Kurumi's focused on her plan to move in with Naoi after high school and she hopes that Naoi is as committed to that idea as she is. Kurumi starts throwing herself back into her student council work. These disruptions in their time together start to cause Naoi to mentally spiral on top of everything else going on.

Eventually it gets so bad, Naoi is starting to have violent thoughts. So, she ends up texting Kudou, so that they can meet up. Kudou is super pleased.

Hopefully Naoi doesn't do anything stupid. But given her mental state, she's likely going to start beating on Kudou to relieve stress.

The entire conversation is a fucking riot though, absurd like a Monty Python sketch, and it gets weirder the more you think about it. She’s also outing her sister (and arguably herself) to Niji at that point even if she wasn’t an obsessive stalker, although the retard probably didn’t think of that.
Niji’s cover is already essentially blown, a stalker outside the school would have an easy time figuring out her co-worker’s gender, especially one that gets so much inside the school right, this narrows it down to just family or class mates. More than that when you put more than three braincells together, but to be fair, no one here does that. Still, you should get at least a bit suspicious that the fanfic writer had the exact same misconception that stems from, to the best of their knowledge, just Remu’s overly enthusiastic narration that they “mistakenly” interpreted as romantic. Ammending the story because of course that giga autist wants to do that now would narrow the culprit list down to just the people sitting at the table right there and then beyond the last shred of doubt.
Then there’s her happy face proclaiming that she’s nothing like that story when everyone around her thinks she absolutely is like that, just worse (at least with sex stuff), and how that’s somehow the weirdest part in this literal real life slash fic that didn’t even bother to change the names of the people involved. Oh yeah, that part is always worth repeating and I laugh every time. She didn’t even change the fucking names.

We already saw the artist started to struggle with the serialization when she was basically forced to change her artstyle and wasn't able to keep it monthly anymore. I just imagine it reached a point where both the publisher and the artist were not happy with this situation and are trying to find a solution, after all she for sure does not want to work more for the amount she originally agreed and having basically a bimonthly serialization is not going to work out.

Well anon, on this very board people immediately pointed out the art style didn't fit the series when the first image was announced, then what happened? What was an iconic sexy illustration in the original became a comedy skit in the manga and you can easily see by how much the artwork changed the feedback wasn't good. It seems this series is actually popular with the female audience and so they picked a shoujo artist for the manga, which there is nothing wrong with, but not every shoujo artist is Kodama Naoko which is experienced in making the character interactions look naturally lewd. To me this is a editorial failure in not understanding what was the project they were working with.

For ZenKowa chapter 23, I think the twist is that Mine wrecked the display, because she felt like Isanuma was starting to favor Kudou over her. Her goal was to isolate Isanuma, which failed, so she wanted the festival project that was bringing everyone together to fail. Thing is, Naoi will obviously be blamed for it. So now it's all a matter if Kurumi believes Naoi if she denies doing it.

I'm getting kind of tired of every time Kurumi and Naoi get closer being triggered by an outside party.

They only speak in chapter 1 since the teacher is lazy. Kurumi only comes back into contact with Naoi in chapter 8, because once again the teacher is lazy. Chapter 10 only happened because Isanuma found the desk and assumed Kurumi did it, otherwise Kurumi would've just kept dating Kokoro while being unhappy about it. Naoi never intended to open up to Kurumi about her family, she only did it because her dad happened to harrass her on the night of her and Kurumi's date. And now, them breaking out of the funk they've been in this volume is being triggered by Mine likely pulling a stunt Naoi will get blamed for, while Kudou's text to Naoi about Kurumi hanging out with the class compelled her to come to school to make her look even more guilty. Odds are Isanuma will jump on Naoi next chapter, compelling Kurumi to defend Naoi and also gain the class' annoyance.

I suspect YH wanted a subtle yuri adventure like Garan No Hime with really good art to be more of a mainstream work they could push for other audiences too, but it doesn't look to me it ever sold well and was most likely surviving on being an internal bet. I think it's time for YH to just start accepting the facts, works will not survive without hints of romance and the biggest obstacle to more mainstream acknowledgment is not even the content itself, but the biggest barrier is the lack of resources to better promote their content, their current cash cow is the merch selling machine Sasakoi and they fucked really bad with the promotional content for the series itself, the anime.
