It isn't any different, that's why Sorawo is unsatisfied with it, because she wants it to be something more than a normal romantic relationship like other people have.
It's nothing new in yuri. The love in yuri is much more real, stronger and deeper than the superficial "love" you see in het series, however there isn't a term for "more than love" but calling it just "love" puts it on the same level and that's degrading. It's the same reason why Yukiko refuses to call love what there is between Sakurako and Kasumi in Futaribeya.

I haven't read volume 10 yet, but the part in 9 where Kozakura describes the legal process of adopting Kasumi makes me think that Sorawo will eventually have to confront some of the practicalities of having a unique concept for their relationships, if she wants to stay connected to the regular world.

I always understood it as revulsion Sorawo feels towards the love she saw her dad and grandma have towards her mom. It looked good when she was alive but once she died they threw out her altar to please some stupid cult. I'd imagine it's like seeing your dad piss on your mom's grave. I shouldn't have read the epilogue of volume 10. It basically said that the true ending of the story happened in volume 8. I will keep reading till volume 12 of course but still it kinda ruined it me. I realized something was going on when the story kept switching focus and going back and forth in time but I persevered nonetheless. I actually detest endings. The relationship doesn't go that far yet, but its obvious where it is going and the author calls it yuri in the afterword. Also the second volume has already been confirmed.

My go-to rec is 聖クロス女学院物語. It's a kids book so it's much easier to read than your average LN, and although it starts off slow and is axed after just three volumes (with the fourth half-finished on the author's blog), by the 2-3rd volume it has enough gay tension everywhere. Essentially it's about a mystery-solving club in a Marimite-like school, but the protagonists spend more time being silly and admiring their upperclassmen than actually solving mysteries, at least until things start getting weird.
Really a shame that it never continued, the fourth volume with the school play was getting intense.

The LN industry is killing storytelling. They don't know if they'll ever get a second volume so they either reveal and resolve everything in the first volume leaving no plot open for future volumes or they won't resolve anything but then don't get any other volume so the story remains incomplete. Axed manga at least have a second volume to end the story.
I hope in some kind of twist like the MC wrote the letter herself (but it doesn't seem to be the case) so she could have dates with all the three girls and not just revealing that it's one of the three.
Sakuhi is a great character, she deserved to be more developed but boring stuff like exams and elections stole away too much time.

Avena is a pretty neat love interest, albeit I'm very partial to detective prince archetypes. I like that despite being a munchkin novel, she doesn't get sidelined as Ciel grows stronger as she has many support attributes such as information brokering, providing therapy, and being the protagonist's sugar mama. The use of the timeloop aspect in the romantic developments was quite cute as well. The stoic Ciel growing more affectionate of Avena from fucking around and finding out how much psychotic bullshit she would be willing to put up with for her via the loops was quite charming.
I was also interested in the relationship between Amy and the dopey plague doctor who's the little sister of the blind nun. That they became roommates and pseudo drug dealers for Ciel during the Capital arc due to their pathway synergy seemed like a good setup to me.
The best version of Ciel is Instigator Ciel.

The LNs and manga were created and written by Sakurako Kimino (the same woman who created Love Love! btw).
The anime is basically entirely different except has (most of) the same characters with (mostly) the same personalities. Chikaru especially for the shaft there in the anime imo.
You should both read the LNs and watch the anime (the manga never got past the first bit of the LNs).
The anime does sometimes go a little harder than you might expect, but no, a scene like the one where Miyuki drags a random girl into the baths with her and Shizuma just so the rando can get molested by Shizuma instead of herself does not feature in the anime.
Both the LNs and anime are delightfully absurd in their own ways.

Iori Miyazawa's next book ウは宇宙ヤバイのウ2 releases tomorrow. The first book('s 2023 re-release) is goofy yuri sci-fi. To be fair, the afterword is vague there and doesn't explicitly mention sex. It could just mean more biting, but it's either way it's high time for a kiss. We've already had a straight-up profession of love and the story has made it very clear that the only thing that could tear them apart is death. Speaking of things devoid of originality and an actual plot, I finished reading The Girl Who Wants to Be a Hero and the Girl Who Ought to Be a Hero today. It's a standard magical battle academy story where the demon girl MC goes to the human kingdom to attend Hero School and falls in love with her class's straightlaced honor roll student. On her first day, she beats up a hotblooded bully, whose mother then tries to get MC and her girlfriend expelled from school. The students have to wear a magical AI chatbot thing that helps them predict enemy attacks and tells them what things they should specialize in, and there's a subplot that these devices are being used to brainwash the students, but Inori seems to have forgotten this particular story thread in the latter half of the book. She gets kissed by her partner during the climactic battle at the end of the book to power her up, and she says that she might have to kiss her other friends to get different powers, much like Komari from the vampire books. If it goes poly, I'll probably drop it. I was hoping to ship the bully with her alcoholic mom, but she does get some decent chemistry with one of her flunkies, which was cute.

I took that one anon's advice and watched the Strawberry Panic anime after reading the books. It was definitely a different experience, like two authors took the same characters and made an entirely different universe with them. I much preferred Shizuma's portrayal in the novels as being a perverted blowhard, rather than her characterization in the anime of an ethereal, mysterious senpai. The anime didn't even have the girl who came back from Russia to challenge Amane and had to hook up with the little girl as her partner. The anime also, perhaps not surprisingly, left out some of the racier parts of the novel, like the part where Yaya gropes Hikari in the pool and later regrets that she should've either gone all the way and fingered Hikari or just left her alone. The anime did have some good parts, like when Kizuna and Remon are thumb wrestling and Kizuna just starts kissing Remon to distract her. It also felt like the anime's writers shoehorned the Etoile election into the final half-dozen episodes, and Amane's brief period of amnesia felt like cheap drama, although it wasn't nearly as intense as all the bullying that took place in the novels. Now I understand all the memes of Shizuma having the disease that makes her spontaneously explode and whatnot. I was feeling too lazy to download a torrent so I bought the DVDs used and I can't help but wonder if they were someone's first yuri experience. Anyway, Tamao was the best.

Some authors really sucks at starting a series.
They have a story in mind but in order to write it they have to come up with a situation in which the two girls meet and start their relationship, but the premise of the story they have in mind is so out of the ordinary that any situation will be absurd and irrealistic but it will be forced anyway in order to start the story.
It was the case with ShuuKura and it is the case with クラスの姫は私のわんこ.
"I saw you didn't let your friend copy your homeworks but you helped her to do them herself so become my master and treat me like a pet" doesn't make any sense.
And the answer to such a thing would be "are you ok in the head?" and not "why me?".
"Because I think you're fit to do it but if you don't want I'll just ask a random guy" is another piece in a discussion that makes you wonder what the hell you are reading.
The pet play itself doesn't have a solid ground even after you read the characters' background, both for the pet that wanted to be treated like a pet because all her life people told her how cute she is and for the MC that turns into a beast out of nowhere because her sister doesn't spend time with her anymore, but in the end it remains just a fetish play they do when they are alone like if it was simply sex, and for the rest of the story they're just a normal couple.
The pet play moments are weird but everything else was very good, I feel like Inukai Anzu is getting better volume after volume. Speaking of which, how did she get so many volumes and series one after the other? She's getting more prolific than Mikami Teren in his golden age.
Anyway, I hope a second volume will be announced because there's still a lot more to elaborate with both the friend and the little sister.

I read Homunculus Tears today. It's a story where war-weary humans create a loli homunculus to serve as their ultimate weapon in a war against demons. The soldier girl falls in love with the loli and they prevent the demons from destroying the world. The actual MC is the disembodied spirit of an alchemist who turned herself into pure energy long ago to prevent the demons from destroying the world in a previous battle and now exists as kind of a magical girl mascot thing, and I really think that she only exists as a character because inori just couldn't write the damn story in third person limited for whatever reason, because all she really does is make pervy comments about the girls. The last battle contains some magical hacking that was very lame. It had all the setup to be an oneeloli romance but the main couple doesn't even kiss at all, and the soldier girl has two moms and it's not even explained how she was conceived, besides through alchemy I guess. The book is too short to really get into detail with any of the themes it tries to explore, and the romance is paper-thin. Not great.

It was so boring without nothing yuri happening that it took me a month to read half of it.

One of the things that got me mad is actually how quite loved and appreciated it was among readers (and still is, considering the reviews of the last volume), it always got a lot of traction on twitter, with reactions and fanarts and they made it rank in the top ten here >>4479659 above beautiful works like Saeki Sayaka and Hatsukoi aite (though it's only 26 votes so it counts even less than yurinavi's rankings) and now we find out it shitted on yuri like that.

There isn't a good in-universe explanation. Clearly machines and electronics work in the urasekai, and drones can use inertial navigation in the absence of GPS. Obviously it would make way more sense to use drones to identify interesting places to explore than to putter around at random on a modified tobacco harvester. Drones also wouldn't have to worry about glitches. I assume the author is just technologically clueless and honestly hasn't considered the possibility.

Anyway, otherside as far as I understand operates on perception and scrambles it really hard. That's the reason any data you send to earth turns into creepypasta fodder. You could be sending a drone from inside, yes, there is some sort of common objective really present there. But sentient mind behind otherside potentially could interfere with either video feed or a signal, so you can't trust what you see even more than you usually do. And that's not even accounting for the fact that Sorawo's eye is the only reliable source of visual information about otherside at all. You can't trust even your own eyes with the amount of illusions in this world, not to mention adding several proxies to it.

it's not necessary at this point. drones might help them find distant destinations to travel towards but they have plenty to explore that's viewable from the ground/current gates available. and they want to explore, it's not like they're looking for something specific to beeline towards

maybe when toriko was looking for satsuki it might have been an idea, but we've seen tech go wrong. they've explicitly shown it to be unreliable. also what you can perceive itself is unreliable, fully trusting the data a drone sends back would be a bit silly there

Another thing that's weird is that they haven't really had a goal to work towards since dealing with Satsuki. What's their actual current reason for urasekai expeditions? Having fun exploring isn't a believable motivation when the stakes are so high and they nearly die every single time. They don't even bother picking stuff up to sell anymore like they did early on.

Maybe this is the core of why the series has been dragging so badly since volume seven. The author lost the plot, literally, and now he's just writing semi-filler material. Hopefully the Horned Man coming after them in volume eleven will signal the start of something significant happening again. Also hopefully the author will stop being a coward and will let his characters actually have sex. "Nue" has very OC DO NOT STEAL vibes, but in the end it's just following the typical anime/LN pattern of never allowing the girls to have sexual relationships with anyone because they don't want to piss off waifufags.

I'm not caught up with the latest Japanese volume, but I kind of got the sense that we're approaching a fork where Sorawo and Toriko can't indefinitely balance Otherside hijinks and unique relationship descriptors with the reality of living in normal society. The author doesn't shy away from the actual requirements of real life. See the various conversations about how others interact with them as a couple, the living situation with Toriko's parents, and Kozakura's lengthy description of the actual process of adopting Kasumi. Sorawo acknowledging that Toriko wouldn't care about the Otherside if she wasn't around also feels like something that needs resolution.

Honestly, It's kinda is, the major difference is that usually the mc's are not pushovers, I read a yuri cultivator novel where the mc was a poor innocent girl that got the chance to became a cultivator, in one of her adventures she killed the son of some big shot, then the big shot tried to kill her but failed, because she was still too weak to fight vs the big shot she came up with the solution of making a "killing formation" in the city the big shot lived, so she ended up killing everyone in the city as collateral, it was a crazy read but the yuri part was really good.
