My deepest apologies to animal haters, but that was clearly the best piece of art from SuleMio week, by yam. I'll do the card when there's a better resolution scan available.

I took out Vanadis Heart, added the setting guide and reorganized the OP in what is hopefully a more logical order. Please tell me if I fucked up something.

I think it means that Shuji went back to his home planet and Machu and Nyaan were left behind and they'll chase him down in the almost soft confirmed movie sequel.

This. Why are you still paying them attention? Sulemio isn't that subtle when Miorine asked Suletta to stay by her side forever, and the latter saying out loud she wants a ceremony with pretty rings and the very best dresses and asked Miorine to choose her. We've won.

>Ichinose: In the epilogue, the scene where Miorine puts her head on Suletta's shoulder is so good. 3 years have passed, I could feel that the space between the two of them had become more intimate, seeing a married couple in that form, once again my heart was touched.

To act as a foil to Suletta, showing why Miorine was wrong to embark on her journey of being a hard woman making hard decisions.

Miorine's S1 and early S2 character arc is about her turning into her dad: supremely confident in her own abilities, feeling responsible for the world, willing to alienate and hurt her loved ones for their own good. When Suletta appears unreliable, she tries to have one talk with her and when it doesn't go well, she casts her and Earth House aside.

Instead, she picks as her partner someone she loathes, but who has access to resources she'll need in her campaign. This is a bit of a disaster: despite saying he doesn't trust her to handle the negotiations, he leaves her alone to deal with his own stuff and she has to draw emotional strength from the dumb PV (his side quest revealing Shaddiq is pure dumb luck). During the negotiations, it soon emerges Miorine doesn't actually know what the Earthians' lives are like (if only she knew some!) and they don't want her technocratic solutions, but showing off her friendship with the Earth kids she has just alienated impresses them.

The operation to arrest Shaddiq goes to hell. Maybe it was always going to end badly, but Guel certainly doesn't help by being a hothead and ignoring the professional's instructions. In the aftermath, Guel is incapable of supporting Miorine or doing much of anything except await his fate. Contrast this to Suletta, who's digging up bodies with her bare hands, helps the survivors and finally saves Miorine.

It's not that Guel's a bad guy (he takes Shaddiq alive and is loyal to Suletta and Miorine), but he doesn't have what it takes to stand by Miorine's side, and that's why he's prominent in S2, to suck and make Suletta's good qualities shine more.

Usually I read this about the Cuck. Interesting take neechan, I was fearing a +100 Guel schizo argument with that post.

I've read Guel is Miorine's foil, especially in season 1. Instead of literally running away from her dad, Miorine faced him, asked him some support and built some sort of relationship; Guel ended up killing his dad. I remember an analysis, from when the show ended, pointing out how Miorine decided to walk on her own path while Guel decided to follow his dad's.

There's some of that in their duel, explicitly so, but I think Shaddiq's main job is to parallel Miorine. Suletta's a better groom than him because she believes in Miorine and wants to support her instead of making decisions for her, but Miorine doesn't believe in Suletta and makes decisions for her. Miorine telling Shaddiq he lost because he won't trust others is accurate, but also applies to herself later.

>pointing out how Miorine decided to walk on her own path while Guel decided to follow his dad's.
That's true too. While she initially didn't do too well, at least Miorine decided to change the world after encountering the horror. After his experiences, Guel went right back to preserve Jeturk's position in dealing out the horror. Clearly he developed some sympathy for Earthians and was happy for things to change, but he wouldn't have achieved it without Miorine.

The first episode is SO good, the way it ends with Miorine claiming Suletta as her new fiance, the visuals are amazing. But then it never reaches that height again for the rest of the series. There are some high points but it's mostly a steady decline to the absolute clusterfuck that is the end.

It's crazy how everything that Gwitch did right, Gquax did wrong.
Suletta and Miorine's relationship was the highlight of the whole show, the central conflict, and it felt believable and well-developed. Season 2 might have been bad, but the show had already generated enough goodwill from the audience to keep them watching because they loved SuleMio.
Meanwhile in Gqux, the so called "romance" boils down to newtype bullshit that results in girls falling in love with some interdimensional jannie with zero personality because they felt a psychic high. Even outside of romance, the main trio had so few scenes together that it's impossible to give a shit about them or their relatioship with each other. Nyaan and Shuuji aren't even characters, they're plot devices. Nyaan in particular just acts however the script needs her to, which she herself acknowledges.

There's also how the Earth dorm kids in Gwitch continued to be kinda relevant even by the end, whereas the Pomeranians completely disappear from the story apart from a last episode cameo.
I mentioned this before, but Gquuax is like two different shows stitched together. The swerve after episode 6 was so drastic that it makes everything before feel pointless. You can have a Clan Battle show, and you can have a UC multiverse slop show, but not both at once.

I still stand by the belief that sulemio’s depiction in s2 is good because despite being apart for most of it their relationship is still the driving force of the show. Their relationship is fractured at the end of s1 but it’s that same relationship that drives them towards all their actions, good or bad, in s2. They genuinely love each other and it’s that love that forces them to make the sacrifices that they do in s2. Make either of them (or even BOTH of them) guys in s2 and you’d have way less people questioning the legitimacy of their relationship. Ffs the guys in the show are the most obvious foils to the girls but because they’re guys people treat them as serious options and even go so far as to doubt sulemio’s relationship.

>but Gquuax is like two different shows stitched together
I’ve seen so many people say that more episodes would’ve fixed it but I can’t see that happening when the premise is already so fucked. All the actual interesting things in the first 6 eps (shiiko and other former oyw vets, side 6 politics, fucking clan battles) ultimately resulted in set dressing until they got to the actual stuff they really cared about (multiverse nonsense). Shiiko’s whole episode is even more frustrating in retrospect because now she just looks fucking pathetic for not actually getting any real closure for her mav’s death despite following more or less the same path that machu does for the entire series. Cautionary tale? Nope, just unlucky!

And oh god, lalah. Poor lalah suffered the worst from this show and it’s just so heartbreaking to see. People complained about this show potentially being zeon wank but the real danger we should’ve looked out for was char wank.

This is what killed the show for me, because it misses the point. Turning a what-if alternate timeline into an actual parallel timeline accesible via portals just completely misses the point of what-if stories. I think the first season as a whole was pretty good. It escalated in a logical way with each episode, and Episodes 11 and 12 were the highest point. But it seems like the writers didn't know where to go from there, so we got too much stuff happening and nothing happening simultaneously.
Norea and Sophie both kill themselves in identical terrorists attack so one surviving felt pointless, cool characters like Chuchu never got to do anything important, Guel's adventures on Earth ended up amounting to little, and the biggest mysteries of the show received only vague and unsatisfying answers.

She doesn't "atomize all gundams everywhere", just the ones she has collected there. If there's a secret vault with extra gundams somewhere, they're totally fine.

Being able to control all permet technology within range is already a pretty wild power. Manipulating permet into destroying machines containing it doesn't feel that different. Pic related is how it's explained in the world guide.

>we got too much stuff happening and nothing happening simultaneously.
100%. The 2nd season's pacing was extremely hamstrung in how the order of events required characters (most importantly, sulemio) to be in certain places. Sulemio couldn't interact until after the first school shooting, because otherwise the betrayal wouldn't happen. However, that ironically drained most of the dramatic tension that had been built up between them because of the splat, which makes the circumstances of the betrayal feel that much more contrived. Suletta then has to be more or less sidelined until Miorine gets shockingly double-crossed by Prospera on Earth. Then the pacing goes into overdrive with the almost comical escalation of stakes that QZ introduces with Eri massacring an entire SAL task force. The SAL superlaser is only introduced as an excuse for Suletta to have her gay newtype jesus moment, which is cool and all, but ultimately rings hollow (The way Benerit was dissolved in order for everyone we cared about to get off scott free was also extremely hand wavy). I love Crippletta, but I feel like they could have put her through the level 10 permet air fryer in an equally personal but lower stakes (in terms of world ending consequences) situation. It's even more of a shame how season 2 was structured and plotted when you consider how well executed season 1 was, but I that's okouchi for you. At least it got a happy ending (and Prospera getting away with everything was extremely based).

At least Delling and the other execs prolly are gonna be stuck in annoying SAL hearings for the rest of their lives. Regardless it was a very hand wavy and convenient way of resolving the whole SAL/Benerit issue in the ~30 seconds the last episode allowed for that.

>As for the stakes getting bigger, that's every single Gundam tv show.

They were a mixed bag for me. I thought Gquuuuuux might grow on me, but I could never get past how close it was to Eva. Same with Red Gundam. Zakus were a big miss. Gyan was cool but has the Michaelis problem. I did like the Gelgoog and Guncannons, especially Sayla's. They have kind of a neat construction robot vibe.

I feel like G-Witch's designers did a great job of keeping mobile suit designs to what could reasonably be made into a good HG, so the whole line was good. Gquuuuuux has poseibility but relies on stickers or really detailed painting for color correction. Compared to Aerial which is beautiful right out of the box.

Most likely. Given her dad still died in GQucks, her mom, Haman and her sister probably all still went into exile together, but likely came back after Zeon won the war, since they had no cause to hide from Federation prosecution, nor start the Neo Zeon movement. Questionable if her mom and Haman's sister lived or not, since they both died pretty soon after the war.

Suppose there is the possibility that Haman could try and like, create a Zabi loyalist faction to oppose Sayla or something, but I doubt it'd be able to catch on against Zeon's Daughter. Conversely there's the possibility of Sayla purging inactive Zabis, like Mineva or Garma, but she doesn't really seem the type (Challia does tho, so never say never).

It's a really common mistake, but there were no major problems. You did a great job.

If you want an easy way to check, try replacing it's/its in the sentence with she's/her (or he's/his). If the new form has no apostrophe, your it form shouldn't have one either.

So like
under it's/its spell > under her spell, no apostrophe.
It's/its late > She's late, use apostrophe.

Considering the Groom/Bride system doesn't exist, how is the romance going to be handled? I really doubt we'll have something explicit, like episodes 11 and 17 (24?), so I wonder how they'll show they like each other in that way. Miorine is refusing to be Suletta's friend (Chuchu & Co. will fill that role), so any gay interaction between them can't be labeled as "gals being pals".

The only thing I'm sure is Miorine will say she will stay in school, and what she wants to do is fill Suletta's list. Maybe the manga will end with a new list, the "With Miorine-san to-do list".

>>4440888
I find too cute the fact Suletta added "with a friend" with Miorine in mind. I feel the 'friend' thing is just Suletta being clumsy; I hope her to realise she doesn't have to be Miorine's friend to hang out with her and do stuff together.

On one hand this seems to be a slice of life series first and foremost, so I'm not expecting a lot of romantic developments. At the same time though, this chapter really made me feel that the author is someone that loved G-Witch. I'm thinking it'll stay in the high subtext range; probably no engagements, kisses, or overt confessions, but a lot of Suletta and Miorine's bond being portrayed as special, and different from than their friendships with the Earth House kids.

I think this puts the boys in similar positions. Their feelings obviously can't be written as above SuleMio, so I wouldn't be surprised if they're less romantically coded. Miorine will get jealous of Elan, but Suletta will actually just want to be his friend.

Short but interesting take on G-Witch and Youth Frontier. You can get the gist of it through machine translation. The author compares it to how G Gundam was considered heretical at the time, but is now considered a classic because it stuck to its uniqueness. They claims that G-Witch's mistake in season 2 was expanding on traditional Gundam elements of war and conspiracy instead of keeping things grounded in Suletta and Miorine's relationship, and on the personal stakes of the duels, and suggest that Youth Frontier might turn out to be a version of the story that fulfills season 1's promise.

I don't agree with a lot of what the author says, but it's interesting to see how it differs from opinions in the west. I had a cynical view of Youth Frontier after the first chapter, and assumed it would be a fun but unambitious and unrisky take on the characters, and it's heartening to see Japanese readers take an opposite perspective; that it will be a story that can put as much time as it needs into their romance.

One of the most common criticisms I've seen, and I agree with it too.
They never should have left the school, having the students duel as an extension of different parts of the Benerit Group fighting was all they needed, maybe the terrorists from Earth plot could have been kept in to add some legitimate danger and a real space battle, but it should have never become the main focus.

Nah, the loss of innocence and its aftermath in S2 is what makes the romance and gives GWitch the right to call itself Gundam. S2's mistake was having extremely awkward and rushed pacing due to some ill-advised narrative decisions (mainly the betrayal), as well as just generally biting off more than it could chew. All the war and conspiracy stuff was simmering in the background until plant quetta, which was the perfect launch point to expand the scope of the show (hence all the deaths and the splat). They just executed it very poorly.

>suggest that Youth Frontier might turn out to be a version of the story that fulfills season 1's promise.
It honestly makes me sad that there are people who actually might believe this (not saying that you do necessarily), because it suggests that the only thing that they think season 1 had going for it was sulemio's relationship. Season 1 wasn't just a nice seasonal yuri romance. It was a damn good show on all fronts. For heaven's sake, Prospera, who stole the show every time she was on-screen, hasn't even shown up, and, when she does, will almost certainly deviate a bunch from her character in the show. I will say that I'm a lot more optimistic after chapter 2 than I was after chapter 1. However, at the end of the day, it's still just a sol high school spin-off, and I'm tempering my expectations accordingly.

Actually Hidasake worked in the setting; Okouchi mentioned him in an interview. It will be a shame if the romance isn't explicit like in the show. Though, we might have a scene like the one in episode 11, Miorine saying she wants to stay at school with Suletta because she's having so much fun with her. The real deal is if it's going to be gay with hugs and stuff.

>>4441032
I know, I simply don't want them to be portrayed as just "two very good super best friends". I hope Suletta to realise she wants to be more than just Miorine's very best friend.
