You know why they keep shitting out gay comic book characters as publicity stunts but nobody has really given a shit outside of Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy? You can't force people to like stuff and just making "gay character plus some new love interest" is just going to annoy people vs "hey we know you loved these two characters together so we're making it happen."
The time to have done it was in Awakening when she was Tharja. Now it's just a consolation prize because Nintendo was spooked by the Tomodachi 2 press backlash but was also afraid of putting in gay options because no fucking major publisher in Japan did that shit. They didn't put out a press release about the gay options in Fates until the game was already out in Japan, we only learned about the gay options early from datamining the leaked copies.
By then people had moved on, there were new girls to get excited about that we just went back to making cope fanart and mods for because girls like Camilla or Azura weren't in-game options. Rhajat is an asterisk that in the long run amounted to interesting franchise trivia and Fates in the long-run is even treated by fucking IntSys as that one game between Awakening and Three Houses.
That's why Edeleth changed the game. Edelgard, a Lord character, the main advertising girl, the cover girl, you can marry her as a female avatar. Not just some off-to-the-side character that Nintendo hopes the audience at large doesn't notice. As well as stuff like Doropetra where they also get married.
Engage's main weakness was being Engage in spite of having all the female characters to pick from, but I hope, avatar or not, that 4chan's Weave isn't lacking in giving its so-far two revealed leading ladies at least one female love interest.
