His speed is pretty garbo and sees him doubled by mages in ch. 8 by all the mages with the handaxe and unlike Niles he doesn't have enough res to tank even a double, he's also just in a poor weapon type for the early game where you'd really use him with all the axe fighters and mages on ch. 8 and even though there's lancers on ch. 9 most of them are either in gang up territory or carry seal def, really just make him backpack for Effie to help her personal skill to reach one shot thresholds.

I honestly would rather have Harold do anything else than just staying glued to Elfie, since she's kinda mediocre especially in relations to the insane buffs he gives. I also like his combat well enough, since he can deal good damage and take hits well especially if you run a bronze axe on him. Just don't leave the handaxe equipped on him for the most part, GBA emblem should've taught you how op trade strats are.
It helps that he has 1-2 range access on chapter 7, giving him one of the few ways to chain dual strikes there. Plus, the Mozu chapter is free exp, so you can easily get him to good thresholds.

She depends on a pairup bot to choke since her hp isn't that high and her defense isn't nearly high enough to make up for her low spd, which makes her one of the worst units to choke. Meanwhile, Kamui, Cyrus and Joker/Felicia can choke better on their own due to their personal skills or straight up stats. She also doesn't benefit from Demoiselle, so you need Joker for her defense to stack decently high at all.

With Harold paired up, without him she fails to do so. Guess what though? Most units with Harold pairup OR enemies, proving that he's the one doing the lifting. Plus, dual strikes exist, OR in Fates isn't all that hard on PP in the first place.

Considering that you don't have to fight them fairly at all, they barely matter. Cyrus and Kamui also still exist as easy counters to them, since they are both tankier due to how hard their stats carry, and they can counter without wtd.

She's alright there, but chapter 10 has you use everyone you have. Elfie isn't doing anything exceptional there either.

But he has 8 base speed. Tonic and Niles/Selena pair-up brings it up 13. C-support with either brings it up to 14. If he procs 1 point of speed before Ch. 10, that's 15. Like obviously that's fast enough to double a good deal of things.
He's pretty bulky and strong besides, so he can afford to just use a +1 bronze axe and get nothing from pair up. He's not Bartre or Marty, all I'm saying.

I did this recently. There's no great answer, honestly. It'd be nice if it was a straightforward thing, but early promo kills exp gains till around Ch. 16. It's probably best to save an easy child paralogue like Kanna or Ophelia for him and have it before Ch. 17-18 and no later. It gets annoying after that.
And use him as a carry until then, because 2-3 points of exp per kill adds up and he's serviceable for a good while off of zerker bonuses. Not like you were gonna use that slot on some other shitter, right?

Anyway, the fundamental problem with these classes is two fold;
1. Most characters lean too hard to one stat
2. Enemies dont have enough variety in bulk to justify not just sticking exclusively with tomes if you can. Even in romhacks, with str/mag split, you see sword users being the only ones who care about both stats since they get multiple magic swords while everyone else can treat it as a dumpstat.

The only relevant stat she loses by going Sage is 2 spd, which sucks, but can be played around. Ignis is unreliable and the sword rank might as well not be there with her mediocre strength(and why use a levin sword by the time you reclass when you can use a tome).

I don't use Celine long term at all, not particularly anyway. But if I did, I would use her in a generic capacity, as a warm body with early Canter. Griffin's generic utility is unironically more useful than Celine's "swiss army knife" utility in Vidame. As if Griffins aren't swiss army knives, themselves. Vidame can still provide obstruct staffing while being able to use the various B staves present.
Flame Vein is the most generically useful dragon vein and Alear has better things to do like wear Lucina or use Engage+. 3 Range debuffing with Corrin is quite useful.
In terms of Byleth, the non dragon instructs are underrated especially once you know doubling thresholds. I take it you're a big fan of pressing end turn with mage knights, ivy, etc? Mystic Instruct gives more magic.
There is simply no need to "force" Celine into a role that others can do and in some cases better.

I genuinely think Flame Vein is a waste of an action, actively detrimental in most cases. I understand this is a break with conventional wisdom, so we're probably never going to see eye to eye.
What you should do in Engage is kill as much shit as possible each turn - until you can reach the boss and end the map. Most stuff isn't useful or assistive in this capacity. Flame Vein *seems* useful, but what it's actually doing is stopping you from killing more things, 9 times out of 10.
Engage is not a particularly well balanced game, and things are very stratified with only a few options being any good.

Welp, that's chapter 17 of my Ironman run done. Lost a few people here and there, worst being Caeda being killed by a random crit and the most embarrassing being a promoted Navarre getting murdered by an elephant. Otherwise, feeling very confident as we approach the final few stages. If only because Marth is pretty much a war god at this point.

Am getting REALLY sick of the inventory management though. Not joking that I spend most of this chapter just moving around characters back and forth from the secret shot. When I replay this game, I'm probably just going to give everybody 3 pieces of equipment just to give them some freaking breathing room. Doesn't help that almost all weapons are shit either.

I don't agree, dividing your army into 3 small groups, with aggressive wyverns and nomads, would be fine on its own. But add to this mages with berserk, sleep and silence and it's overdone. I meant 21, actually. 21x was pretty easy, honestly don't remember much about it, 20x mostly just had annoying status effects (Also made the same mistake with restore staffs). 21 meanwhile felt like them throwing absolutely everything they had at you. The sheer amount of Wyvern riders and lords genuinely got silly after a while.

Honestly, I didn't find Sacae that hard, mostly because I was actually using using Doughlas. Short bows deal zero damage, so just place him in the center with a bunch of javalins and watch the entire horde of nomads crash and burn.

1-2 range is strong because FE enemy composition & map design incentivize it. A facetious solution would be to lock all enemies in a given map to either 1-range or 2-range. There: you solved the "problem" forever. If every map is Fates Conquest fox map, javelins or tomes aren't so hot anymore. Oh, but that map sucks.
So since you don't want to kill enemy variety in order to solve the "problem," the next best solution is to accept 1-2 dominance range as core to FE, and design around it. He should be making every effort to appeal to both sides. Even if it's a futile struggle, the struggle is what makes it interesting and what, should, make the character compelling. You can't just write it off as being TOO HARD and settle for one retarded route. This is all supposed to be heroic fantasy fiction and the characters actions aren't very heroic and thus kind of undermine the fantasy too. That's exactly what happens though, Corrin tries to not kill over and over, until his hand is forced by Garon and his subordinates (especially Iago and Hans) having way too much power and influence. The whole "Justice is an illusion" shows how Corrin ends up having no choice but to accept civilians getting killed in front of him because it's somehow the only available path to him.
Azura also tries everything she can including straight up assassinating Garon to fight back, but she isn't powerful nor influential enough to pull it off and she knows it. In fact, the only person who's on her side is Corrin, which is why she trusts him and him alone due to being one wrong word away from getting branded a traitor by anyone else, due to her Nohrian and Hoshidian connections.

Yes. Wolt is supposed to chip in theory, but he never chips enough for it to ever matter in practice. He can't even be levelled up effectively, since you need to chip for HIM so that he gets any meaningful exp, despite his role being supposedly to chip.

That guy was me, an it IS. Awakening reclass mechanics are fucking awful. You don't reclass your troubadour into a wyvern (even if you could) because it simply doesn't work on any conceptual level.
Stat stacking like that simply doesn't work that way in Awakening, the game is not tuned for it. And reclassing into a base class (the only way to obtain base-class skills) forces you into that base class line until promotion - you can't freely and immediately pick up missed skills in succession.

Personally power level bothers me less than the way skills change how you play. Games with skills tend to be much less about the tactical maneuvering with your pieces and on the fly adjustment and much more about character building and exploiting specific set ups.
