As someone who played 2 when I was 8 which was 20 years ago and played 1 a few years ago, I found myself enjoying the game. It's rougher around the edges but it's great in its own right. Old school fantasy really, as old school as it gets while not being ancient.

I like AoW4 as a multiplayer game because of the amount of options you have but I wish it had more single-player scenarios and not just random map template slop. Campaign is also very short.

AoW1 is great. There's even a few points where you can choose how you procceed and depending on the missions you complete you get different outcomes, like how when you're playing storm cult you can either beat orcs into submission or ally with lizardmen.

I'm trying to learn Master of Magic, but I'm a brainlet when it comes to 4X games.

That is an EXTREMELY important distinction, because the official "HoMM III HD" release is a dogshit downgrade.

Just do HoMM III Complete.

How come there are spiritual successors for HOMM (Songs of Conquests and others) and AoW (Spellforce Conquest of Eo) but Disciples gets nothing? People love turn-based overworld management as evidenced by Civ, Endless Legend/Space, Total War; people enjoy 3-6 niggas in a row (Darkest Dungeon, E33, old Final Fantasy), people love dark fantasy as evidenced by fromsoft games, so why has nobody even tried?

This one pisses me off, AoW still getting sequels, 3 and 4 are pretty good, Olden Era looks a bit shit but at least it's still Heroes gameplay, meanwhile Liberation is literally some random mobile game that looks or plays nothing like Disciples and the only things connecting it to the franchise is that they renamed some npcs to D2 characters. Can't have shit in Nevendaar
