I like knights, shield is a must, armor doesn't need to be heavy mechanics wise, but must be plate.
Bows as a secondary weapon are allowed, utility magic is also allowed.

i think one of my favorite tropes is when a character projects the "aura" (for lack of a better term) of someone who they learned from or w/e. for example, in the raising sim Long Live the Queen, with the right stats, Elodie (the princess) can glare at some skank who wants to fuck her dad in the same way as her late mother and scares her off. that shit is dope

Because they hit that perfect storm of badass and cute. Something about a girl in armor with a chip on her shoulder barking orders or slugging it out in the trenches just hits different. Bonus points if she's a bit unkempt, has a ponytail sticking out the back of her helmet, and calls the MC a dumbass while saving his life. They're also usually less tropey than lead female characters, so they come off more grounded... ironically making them more endearing.

An existential threat to the world is always a good excuse to have the antagonists, and protagonists join sides - it's an alliance of convenience, because that evil empire guilty of horrific crimes upon humanity can't exactly run their Rape Mines if the planet is blown up by some lunatic. Like, that lich hiding in dusty old ruins with plans of overrunning the world with an undead empire should ABSOLUTELY crawl out of his neet cave to lend a hand, because otherwise there will be nothing left to conquer if reality is undone.
