Why does Bloodborne get a pass on its chalice dungeons? There are lots of unique bosses in that game that are locked behind the most copy-paste low tier content of any Fromsoft game. Everything that people complain about in ER with enemy reuse, or using buffed normal enemies as "bosses", or dungeons being repetitive and having bad rewards, is significantly worse in the chalice dungeons. And unlike ER, if you want to see all unique bosses, the entire repetitive chalice gauntlet is mandatory. In ER you can skip almost anything you don't want to do on a playthrough without locking yourself out of bosses you do want to fight. Totally opposite in Bloodborne: If you want to fight Bloodletting Beast, you're doing a dozen fucking Chalice floors.

not quite, that'd be DaS1. But it still is a really good game.
People seem to forget that "souls" games started as basically third-person metroidvanias. They were "hard" because they didn't handheld you and bosses were interesting but gimmicky.
With time, "souls" titles became more cynical in that exploration and discovery weren't the main attractives but the artificial difficulty of "omg this enemy is bullshit". And Elden Ring peaked with that, too many enemies and bosses were tunned to be annoying to fight, not interesting. SotE was even worse in that regard, with spastic anime style common enemies which were more of a chore than a challenge.

ER brought back exploration and discovery, but i agree with the difficulty part.
I especially don't like how they fucked with attack telegraphs to make it harder for seasoned players to react on impulse. It becomes more of a memorization game. SOTE was more annoying than fun. Maybe a skill issue, but I never played Souls for the difficulty in the first place.

You get enough fire spells to fill all your slots and then some. Pyromancy didn't go anywhere and it's just plain better as a single-stat incantation school. Hell you could use the omnicaster staff from the DLC and still run the same int+faith spread as DS3 with magma sorceries mixed in with your fire incantations to shit even more fire everywhere.

The world is smaller than it could be.
They should have spread stuff out more so you had more time to ride in the Wasteland past ruins.
You're already allowed to teleport from the start, so there's no reason to condense space.

Chalice Dungeons are basically just for level grinding if you're walled by a boss.
They're invisible otherwise.
Elden Ring is mostly like that, but you'll see a lot of copypasta ruins in the overworld if you ride around long enough.

Sure you don't get a fight against the Pthumerians or the Bloodletting Beast, but you don't miss any of the main story, either.

What makes Elden Ring's dungeons suck is that instead of getting RNG blood gems that add 7.6% testicular torsion to every attack, they can have things that range from Talismans that totally change how you play the game, to a really important merchant for any INT build.

With all the mobility options they've added between Sekiro, ER, and now Nightreign, they totally could set up a future game as a "3D metroidvania" if they wanted to, but I agree it's wrong to apply that to the older games where progress is gated by keys and plot events, not abilities.

I love the game, but god damn open world shit is exhausting, even when you aren't trying to find everything you can. Any time I try to start a new run to use exclusively one kind of weapon I immediately lose all motivation as soon as I find that weapon, progression kind of sucks when all it has going for it is these tiny bursts of action in legacy dungeons and their bosses (all of which go by in a second because of how optimized your runs become after you run through them so much you memorize everything no matter how much time passes) followed by riding a horse through a whole load of nothing, sometimes with a detour to find seeds or upgrade stones. In fact even the bosses are starting to get tiring too. I guess a year break since I first finished SotE wasn't enough to reset my mind.

i am currently trying out the rest of fromsoft games and I am getting some real elden ring vibes from demons souls

Its difficult to go back to old Souls games after mastering Elden Ring, mostly because I dont want to lose my ER dodge timing.
