I really want them to bring back rival marriages. After all, even in older RF games and even the older HM games, you're given so much time before the rival marriages actually happen that unless you spent almost 3 years (2 years in the original HM) doing absolutely nothing with the characters, you're bound to be already able to romance someone by the end of the 1st year just talking to them every day. And it's not like the older HM games where there's a time limit before the game ends either.

The way I see it, with the social activities improvements of GoA, they could bring back rival marriages again, except they could make it so that if you're good friends with either party, you should be able to influence whether they get together or not, by encouraging them to be together (or not), with events to go with it. They could even bring back the whole Frontiers thing where characters may leave the village if you don't complete the quests to make them stay thing, except tie it in on other stuff. Like say, influence whether you get Hina and Mauro to stick around, get together, or leave to explore other places (removes them as villager residents but instead makes them occasional random visitors; may return to the village if you romance them into a romance to settle down again, etc.)
