Gen 5 was awful. Stretched sprites and puppet animations are sovlless. It also started the shitty story focused and handholding trend.
Even with all its flaws, Gen 4 was the last good pokemon games. USUM are the only passable games since.

Gen 4 was the real nosedive. Gen 3 started cutting corners with the lack of animations for the sprites compared to Crystal, Gen 4 gave us like 20 fps in the overworld and terrible music that would once be considered placeholder with only 1 or 2 good ones that reek of 'they'll play muted anyways.'

for replaying and gameplay gen 5, for characters/overall feel, 7. I played 7 late and it really does have a lot of good, if they had done it in the 2d era I could see it being the best

objectively speaking it was 6 because the multiplayer couldn't be better than that shit. Wondertrade, bottom screen hub for a lot of shit, the introduction of supertraining. Really it was the peak. But in my heart it is 5. Anything past gen 6 had tried too hard to shift what works and removed things one after the other. What they should've done is stick with mega evolution and give it to more pokemon.
