I believe the game on the right was made by a team of professional video game designers and the game on the left was made by one guy in gamemaker. Also I know this is hard to believe but the quality of the game doesn't always directly correspond to the graphical quality.

The problem with Undertale are the ugly ass character sprites. Background tilesets for the most part are decently drawn with proper cartoony shading, but then you have the character sprites which are just flat colors and look out of place
