What game did you purchase in 1998 that you still own?
Anonymous No.712420301 [Report] >>712422374
I still have Atari games.
Somewhere.
It's probably with my mom's friend's prosthetic arm. In one of those boxes in the garage.

My family and all our neighbors were poorfags who pirated everything. Our PCs were also outdated and we were stuck playing pre-97 MS-DOS games.

I still have my Megadrive games from the early 1990s in a drawer. Shame my Megadrive no longer works, I recently hooked it up to play some Golden Axe 2 and it's dead.

I used to spend my pocket money on games, I had hundreds (they only used to be around £5 back in the 90s) when I left home my dad decided they were just old toys and threw them all in the bin, along with all the consoles.

Still have the doom floppy somewhere and an aoe1 disk that broke inside the drive.

98? Let me think.

Resident Evil 2. Starcraft.

I technically did buy it, I have a burned copy of the unreleased PS1 game Thrill Kill. It's the version they sent out to magazines to review. It's a free-for all 3D fighting game where like gimps, sadists, and dominatrices beat each other to death. It got cancelled, then repurposed into Wu-Tang Clan shaolin style or some shit.

Boring. Sounds weirder than it is. I guess.
>Be like.. 9
>Mom is having a dear friend over, old high school buddy she always stayed in touch with
>Mom and dad sit me down
>"Okay. Our friend is coming. She only has one arm though. Dont stare or make it weird, kay?"
>Nod
>Later that day hear the doorbell
>They all say their hellos and go outside in the back for beer and cigarettes
>Eventually get the balls to come downstairs
>Lean out the Arcadia door
>Just some lady
>With two arms
>She says hello
>I make it weird with "Mom said you only had one arm."
>She waves at me with her fake arm and opens and closes it
>Very simple motorized that just opens and closes
>"Is it strong?"
>Mom and dad trying to chase me off by now
>She picks up a beer can and crushes it like a fucking trash compactor. Like crushes the rim so the top bent in half
>WOAH COOL
>She eventually tells my parents to relax. She's happy to show it off.
>Takes the arm off, she has an elbow and nub
>She shows me the contacts and shows me how it works
>"THAT IS SO COOL"
>Well, fast forward about a year and get a big box in the mail
>Its her arm, 2 batteries, a charger, and a very sweet note explaining she got a new better arm and thought I'd like the old one
For years I had it clamped on the edge of my shelf sticking out all weird. I packed it up when I moved out and its just been in the box since. So I just have a spare arm I guess.

Now all I need is a prosthetic leg so I have a set. I do feel bad that the first thing I ever said to the woman was "Mom said you only had one arm." but whatever. She's a dear family friend. The party animal that is the only person that can convince my mom to get up to some mischief. We all love her.
The letter was sweet too. I'll dig it out tomorrow. I want to read it again. The long and short of it was she thought it was neat that I thought it was so neat. People always give her a little pity or condolences about her arm but I never did any such thing. I was just curious and never weirded out about it like so many are. Just encouraged me to stay curious and willing to learn and accept people. Disgustingly sweet but she's always been sugary sweet to me. And would always crush cans for my amusement.

Thanks. It is a bummer but its how these things go. Not that im trying to be blasé or anything. Just I've got nothing but great memories of that woman. Five bucks says she refused a real arm at the gates.
