Is anyone else in their 30s experiencing gaming fatigue? Lately, no game seems to entertain me anymore. I've poured so much time and money into this hobby, worked overtime to build a high-end rig with a 5090 GPU, an 8K TV, VR headsets, and all the bells and whistles. But now, I just don’t feel the motivation to play. Even the latest AAA games barely spark any interest.

I notice people who play games like souls, metroidvanias, horizon zero dawn, spiderman, capeshit, gacha games, shooters, last of us, uncharted, tomb raider, control, etc tend to complain about not liking games more than people who allow themselves to enjoy games with variety, color, etc and not worry so much about how mature they are for playing x game.

I just pick a game, if it doesn't feel satisfying then I'll drop.
Sometimes I might not even play 30 minutes, sometimes I'll spend an entire evening.
Coming back to games I know and love, also works.

I thought I had gaming fatigue, then I simply forced myself to stick with 1 or 2 games at a time instead of going "but what about OTHERGAME" after 3 hours of playtime

I still like to play Titanfall 2 and lots of other older games, so no. For example I recently finished MGS1 again with my kids, showing them retro games is a really cool experience. My PC is an old potato that barely manages to run properly Elden Ring and Expedition 33 in 1080p though. Most AAA games are shit nowadays, don't bother, there are enough old games to entertain you for your whole life.

Guess you need to make a choice of whether you seriously shake up your routine or not. For me I hit that slump especially with vidya at 27 and packed everything in to move to the other side of the world. It doesn't have to be that drastic but why not at least join a local sports club, who cares if you're shit, everyone starts at the bottom.

just replayed through GTA IV and V, was fun
played disco elysium for the first time a couple months ago and was pretty enthralled once i got into it, commie memes aside it was pretty good

i do take a lot of breaks while gaming though, probably every hour or so, i'll fuck off and do something for 15 or 20 minutes and come back. that's probably more ADD than anything though. i can't think of the newest AAA game i've played, aside from cod black ops (which is grating to play after a few matches thanks to SBMM frustration)

having other hobbies and going outside and doing shit helps. vidya is a lot easier to play when you've just got home and can just chill and play till sleepy time

AAA has been fucking trash for like over a decade at this point. They sometimes get a decent game out but that's more coincidence and accident coming from the AAA industry, the default is trash that's hardly even worth looking at, let alone buying or playing.

In my thirties too and my gaming time has actually been increasing a good deal in the past few years. It's rare that I pick up a recent game but there no need to when there's a seemingly endless amount of unplayed stuff made decades ago with sensibilities that appeal to me. I keep finding niches I've never explored before.
Having some other hobbies probably helps too though, I suggest picking up an instrument or something.

I have a nice simple rig with a 1050ti in it that cost me £250. I buy around 2 games a year at max

Expedition 33 got really annoying in act 2 and I don't want to finish it.
I couldn't make myself play fire emblem three houses for more than an hour.
I just go back to old monster hunter and old fire emblem games. That's my life now.

But since you've built your PC too, try playing older titles or something you never played before (platformer if you never played platformers for example).

Modern games have little to no depth to them so they get boring very quickly.

I try to stay away from vidya. Whenever I boot up one I end up playing nonstop for a couple weeks. I recently got Bannerlord and I have 90 hours in 2 weeks.

I'm in my 40's. The last game I played that I thought was really good and worth the time was Kingdom Come 2 which I almost 100% completed. Recently I tried playing Deltarune, Expedition 33 and Stellar Blade demo and I simply found them all boring and stopped playing after giving them a try for about an hour. It's not you and I doubt you're depressed, many games devs just don't know how to make good games anymore and much of the online space is overhype and astroturfing. Bottom line just play what you want all the time and don't feel like you're missing out, gaming should never feel like a chore.

Meanwhile I'm here at 31 playing all those PS2 and dreamcast games I missed with an indie in between.

I have been replaying old reliable and have been having fun. You can't expect every game nowadays to be good and catered to you. it is simply no fisiable.
However we do have decades of vidya available at any giving time and other hobbies exist. You can also just do other stuff. I have been learning Japanese on the side and also started my post graduate course as well.
