YOOO, RTX in 2008???
Didn't know PSP was such a BEAST!!!
kratos and the chest don't have a reflection

I mean look at that, they're a little buggy but it has dynamic shadows in 2008
>>712424031Wrong, that's exactly how it works
>>712423734this doesn't tank the perfomance and therefore is bad
>>712424425nta but FEAR had dynamic shadows in 2005
>>712423734WOAH NICE GRAPHICS
>>712424425>>712424507If we count on what the webm is (single projected shadow) as dynamic shadow there are PS1 games and SNES 2d games with dynamic shadows too

Didn't know PS2 was such a BEAST!!!
>>712424670no reflections on the dead bodies
weapon hit particles aren't reflected
>>712424756Well, in true rtx fashion. No ghosting tho
>>712423734Seems a little tedious but impressive, limitations do breed creativity and thinking outside the box (literally).
>>712423412 (OP)How did they do it without DLSS??? Did the game run at 5fps and take 8 years to make????
Don't show them pokemon ruby and sapphire
>>712423734>>712423412 (OP)This is how you do reflections without killing the FPS.
You wanna know what's even better. Unreal engine slop can't even do this because unreal engine wouldn't be able to render the translucent flaw. it forces Deffered rendering which is so incredibly shit it cant render transparency.
>AMD poors when they see reflections in old games and think it's like ray tracing
>>712425351>translucent flaw
>>712423734modern games are so fucking trash jfc
>>712425478>why don't modern games just have smudgy lights under the road instead of actual reflections?
>>712423734dishonest lighting
>>712425351I hate unreal but why are you lying? Translucency is done on a separated forward pass, like on every deferred engine ever
>>712423412 (OP)It's actually insane that current ray-tracing is literally just offloading devtime/cost onto the consumer.
>>712425628The worst part is that games look worst, and nobody seem to care. Ray tracing doesn't give clean results by principle. It's an exponential power requirement, tech will never be there
>>712425626>Translucency is done on a separated forward passwhich then makes it incompatible with 90% of UE shitty rendering systems because everything relies on deffered so instead devs opt for dogshit dithering.

>>712425531this but unironically
>>712423734back when developers actually did work

>>712425531Well yeah what's the difference besides one method tanking performance?
>>712423412 (OP)>>712423734Delet this, you're hurting the feelings of Nvidia and India.
>>712425531I'd unironically prefer this if it meant less bloat, smaller filesize and better optimization tbqhwy.
Mapped environment reflections, screen space character and object reflections.
That was the way but now devs just say fuck you, use SSR or ray tracing.
>>712423734bless neversoft
>>712425836>>712426061And btw, dithering was never meant to do translucency, I have no idea why epic pushes that shit. The dither AA node doesn't even give the proper weights, it's literally just blur with ghosting
>>712423734Literal Bob Ross reflections in 3D, we need more of this.
>>712424031it's how SOVL works
>>712423412 (OP)>meanwhile in 1999
Selective artistic reflections.
Can't do this with ray tracing it would just reflect everything and clutter the image while tanking the FPS.
>>712423412 (OP)ok whats the technology that made this possible and why is this impossible nowadays without gimmicks that are expensive for the users?
>>712426435How did they solve the issue of reflections in third person vidya? Did they just copy the player model and invert it under the transparent floor?
PS2 games looked better than what we have now
>>712426838Oldest trick in the book.
>>712426064yet in other threads you all complain about mirrors not working correctly
>>712424756Dead things do not have a reflection. A reflection is a vision into the demon world where your soul is partially tethered. Once you die your soul is released and no longer appears as a reflection. It's why vampires have no reflection either.
>>712427426I've never mentioned mirrors. What are you talking about?
>>7124274261. a road isn't a mirror
2. there's no excuse for a mirror in an enclosed room not working since you can easily just draw everything twice.
3. RTX looks and runs worse than drawing everything twice so there's no reason to ever use it other than pure laziness.

RayGate, the new name for the legislative group action against Nvidia, is asserting that raytracing was an unnecessary expense designed to rob consumersโฆ
>>712423734Not good enough, if you want minor reflections it needs to tank performance into the ground with patented tech, so you need to run the game at sub hd resolutions and then use the patented other tech to upscale and use the other patented tech to simulate extra frames.
Now that is the true gamer experience!
Praise be to nvidia!
Ancient tech lost to time....

Reflection works well enough to achieve the effect and no one complained back then.
Way before people tried justifying 1500 dollar videocards and calling anyone that didn't need "realistic" reflections or disliked the huge performance hit as simply being poor.
>>712428664>But AMD supports RT.Post Cyberpunk overdrive benchmark results
>>712423412 (OP)I remember this game being fucking great on PSP, completely different to the PC and other consoles.
RTX simulates how real light works. Old games used cheap tricks that have nothing to do with light rays.

>>712443624This how effective nvidia marketing is, you have actual retards repeating their bullshit like it's the truth.
FYI RTX is like 7 years old now and all those games that were supposedly going to be cheaper and faster to develop by tying your game to nvidia proprietary tech still haven't come out, the best they can do is another paid patch for Cyberpunk 2077 lol

>>712423734Absolute soul. The difference is this takes effort. The artists need to make all of those reflection sprites, and the level designers need to painstakingly place them all, and rigorously test so there's no weird stray ones. Compared to modern lighting systems, where you open your engine settings and tick the box that says "advanced lighting and reflections". Maybe move a few sliders and bang, perfect realistic lighting that only halves the FPS and only has a few artefact glitches... unless of course you're running on less than ultra, or on console, then the reflections will just not work properly and make the whole game look like shit.
