Reddit memes, it's shamelessly inspired by Rick & Morty, visual design looked like AIDs with chromatic aberration on everything, everyone is a lesbian with a shitty haircut, the first planet you visit has the most content, everything else is relatively tiny, recycled plots for side-quests (for instance, "save this woman who we say has been kidnapped but has actually left us because we're dicks" was used three times IIRC), RPG mechanics are non-existent and can be respecced whenever you feel like so it wouldn't matter even if there was depth, the game can be completed in ~10 hours. There's gotta be more but I pirated the game on release 6 years ago.

it's actually crazy how much more enjoyable and more playtime you can get out of like sub $30~ indie game than these expensive triple AAA titles.
Besides that, the first outer worlds was honestly probably the worst game I played that year. The AI was atrocious, the writing was bad, the RPG design was uninspired and poorly balanced, the game placed ammo and consumables literally everywhere so you would be 100% stocked constantly.
