>>712452362>2025, anon discovers skyrim's piss poor balancing for the first timeRanged options allow you to hit others without getting hit. It's strictly superior in every way. There's a reason why sneak archer is considered the most overpowered build.
Mage is just as good for similar reasons, except less tedious since you're not sneaking everywhere, and with magic mods it can easily be even more overpowered.
Guy with big sword always has the issue that the big sword is only useful once you're in the face of the enemy. This means that if there's multiple enemies you can only walk up to one at a time. If any enemies are themselves ranged then you have to run towards them while they shoot you. And once you do get in the enemy's face, the enemy can also hit you even if he's not ranged. It's a lose-lose-lose. Skyrim is not a difficult game so it's not like you have to go meta, but if you've only ever played mage it feels very crippling.
And yes, if you're going for multiple skill trees, you don't magically get more levels, you just spread them out and become a jack of all trades, master of none.
I don't know of any mod that comprehensively fixes these issues; your main options are bandaid fixes like
