Ever since that day, Bomberman has been a lolcow in the video game industry and has never been taken seriously. R2 flopped, Bombergirl is more profitable and Konami refuses to make a collection or put his games on NSO, making people realize that this character was a failure all along.

There just isn't any place for the series to go. Platformers are a dying breed as is so the N64-style games aren't an option, regular Bomberman has been tried a few times since with the XBLA/PSN and Switch games but those didn't really catch on. They even made an anime waifu Bomberman for you wankers but even that failed.

Bomberman was an awkward place in the 2000s because of the 9/11 Terrorist attacks. Even people who didn’t live in America were afraid of something happening. But nothing’s stopping Konami from at least trying to rejuvenate the character. Every Scrimblo Bimblo from the mid 90’s is getting an HD collection.

I think Bomberman has a similar problem to Pacman in that they were both basically perfected from day one with little room to expand. Both have certainly tried but more often than not it's just a random genre with surface level elements or more of the same. It's no wonder every Bomberman game had a 4 player gamemode, that's where it really shines.

Bomberman Hero didn’t have multiplayer and it remains one of the most beloved entries. Pretty much all of the 64 games had significantly better singleplayer mods and that should have been the formula for the series.
