Just got my $5000 bonus for excellence in my field from work. Want to buy a console and some video game and/or upgrade my rig (3080) and get some PC games.
I rarely have this much cash and I want to splurge a little for once.

Buy Expedition 33. It's the best new game we've gotten in about a decade. Most people seem to like it.
3080 should run it just fine, but a sweet 5090 won't hurt.
Or get a PS5 Pro. I've heard it runs fine there too, but there aren't a lot of other great games on the platform.

Are you a fucking CEO? What company pays 5 grand as a BONUS? Also what company pays out bonuses during summer? I thought that was an end-of-fiscal-year thing?

normal non service industry jobs have bonuses. 5k isn't outlandish at all

I get that for my end of financial year bonus and I'm just a grunt, and it's not even individually assessed just "did we hit targets"

>CEO
Nah, I'm a small time project advisor. Nothing flashy.
Like >>712433472 said, my company does bonuses twice a year, but I'm usually not very good with my money so I rarely have this much all at once. I'm good with project budgets just not my own.

Perhaps get a Switch 2? They're the new hotness. Or you could get a Deck if you want something powerful right now, >>712433224 is probably a shill but E33 is legitimately good and you should at least play it on whatever you end up with. I personally think the new Xbox Ally handheld thing looks neat but that's not out yet and I'm assuming you want to splurge now not later.

I don't get my bonuses twice a year but my last bonus I got myself a brand new PC and a nice monitor.
Although, boring take: if you're not good with money and you KNOW you're not you should probably save it, put it in a good high-yield account or something clever.
Anonymous No.712434185 >>712434370 >>712434524
I have never understood the "bad with money" meme. You have a finite amount of money on your account, every X days you get Y more added to that. Don't let it hit 0.
There, that's literally it. You are officially "good with money".

Just look at OP. He got a little bit of extra money, enough to buy a 20 year old used car and he wants to spend it on toys not save/invest it.
Anonymous No.712434524
>>712434185
i'd also add to this "don't take up loans unless it's extremely critical"
there is no such thing as a "good loan", every loan given to you is for the profit of the loaner, it might not look like much on the paper you sign but those percentages add up

Index funds are -generally- a good idea. I'd hold off on it a little now though, they seem to be a bit rickety at the moment.

This. My dad's a mechanic (no fancy engineering just car shit) and he got 8k last year. Though if OP gets 5k twice a year that's a pretty good extra chunk next to his salary I presume.

That's probably pretty rare though. Your wife has made more than twice in bonuses what the median income per person is in America.
It's surreal to think the average American only makes 37k and they think that shit is "the sweat off your brow".
