Surrealism can still be done poorly. It's not easy to do. If it just sounds bad to a lot of people instead of bizarre then it might just be bad. I don't recall Twin Peaks or other Lynch films getting a lot of criticism with people saying it had bad voice work.

I don't think it's as bad as some people say but acting like it's infallible just seems a bit goofy too. And there are still quite a few moments where the voice work is done well. Just not always.
