Is there anyway to deflate an OLD PSP battery? It won't fit anymore.

Serious answer: No. That shit is dead. You will not be able to make it work again, and if you try, there's a serious chance it will burn you and/or hit you with toxic smoke. Throw that shit away now.

You can buy a new one that's bigger (battery life, not size) online for like $20. At least I did like 15 years ago when you still had to have a jigkick memory stick+Pandora's battery to crack it.

retards will tell you to throw it away, retards don't know that you should save the board inside before throwing away the cell
best thing you can do is buy a quality cell off aliexpress and solder it to the board
second best thing is getting an ostent battery

All rechargeable batteries do that when they die. They'll only stop when we switch tinceramic batteries if that tech ever catches up to lithium ion storage capacity. As for why, I don't know. I'm not a battery chemist.

by saving the sony board and replacing the cell you're basically getting a genuine battery

Im sorry anon, but no.
In fact, you have to find a way to dispose of this safely. This is practically now a bag filled with acid ready to burst that might react if it comes in contact with water or oxygen.
If you want to play with your PSP, you will have to find a new one that can be accomodated to your PSPs model, or say goodbye to your PSP.
I pretty much lost mine this way, mine inflated until it stopped working, then whenever i tried to find a new one the only ones available would be second hand used batteries, sometimes they weren't even for the same model. This is important, some batteries for some models are bulkier, so they don't really fit and hold in place properly.
Im not even sure if they still manufacture some of these, unless it is from an obscure chinese/taiwanese factory.

A PSP battery is enough to start a housefire if the conditions are right. And a PSP battery is also going to fart a bunch of toxic gasses out.

makes me wonder what happens when all our chinese devices sitting in the house end up with bloated batteries
It seems like an asbestos kind of thing where as long as you dont disturb it it wont kill you/burn your house down

Lithium batteries kinda suck. Not just PSP, I think it's LiPo (polymer) is popular in general for swelling.

Best pro-tip is never store them away with a full battery charge. Drain them down to around 40% if you're really not going to use it for a while. New gadgets have software mitigations for long-term use like capping charges @ 80% max, use though for your other devices.

Sadly I lost my 3dsXL battery to swelling after years of non-use. Had to pluck that shit out.
