Killing off Wesker was a horrible mistake, and you can tell Capcom simply doesn't know what major baddie they want now with Resident Evil.

It doesn't help that Capcom seemingly will not get one single guy to oversee Resident Evil, and instead keeps choosing a rotating cast of directors, each of whom has their own separate vision of what RE should be.

Not sure if you all remember, but the original director for RE Revelations wanted to make a whole "Clone Chris" storyline that was so bad he got removed and the whole game had to get rebooted. Then they let him try again with the RE7 DLC, and yet again he wanted to make a Clone Chris story, and you guessed it, he got removed again and that's why the DLC took so long to come out.

if you're talking about the difficulty adjustment scale in a lot of the RE games it's only punishing you if you're actually bad yourself - if you're banking ammo, killing a lot and not taking damage, banking heals and pushing the DA up which you can track on PC with an overlay it's not a death sentence since any mistakes you make can be easily countered with all that ammo and HP you've been banking and there's still plenty of wiggle room at the highest DA to survive encounters
RE2 and 3 remake had some sections where yes, you could game the system if you knew exactly where certain break points for the difficulty were but that was really only useful for speedrunners who knew the game front to back and purposefully were gaming the system with exact movements and use of ammo and heals to just scrape by - a good example is in 3remake where runners would mag dump the walls and floor as carlos just before entering RPD to lower the difficulty if they were too far over their intended DA but no one playing the game normally is going to do that or really understand what it might change about the run OR even be able to scrape by with those changes since it still required a great amount of skill to the get through RPD with less resources and not get murdered
anyone playing the games and simply learning the best ways to take enemies without damage, picking up a lot of stuff is going to push their DA high but there's nothing that will become unfair because of it

Umbrella's Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasures Services(UBCS) team had some all right people like Oliviera. Even in Code Veronica, there was that Umbrella employee who released Claire Redfield at the beginning of the game and she brought him some kind of medicine for his wound. Also there were probably employees who really thought they were making medicine while Umbrella was secretly creating bioweapons.

Anyway, probably they took Umbrella's name just to get ahold of any assets and properties left over after most of the company was either laid off or arrested for creating bioweapons and turning Raccoon city into an infested zone of zombies and monsters.
