Both endings have their merit, and how you interpret them depends on who's point of view you're seeing them from. Verso's ending may seem like the correct choice/good ending, but at the end of the day, he's just selfishly genociding an entire living world because he doesn't want to live anymore... pretty gay

The only character I agreed with was Renoir, but even he fucked up miserably. Still, his fuck up is more forgiveable than Maelle's schizoid escapism which amounts to suicide, and its certainly more forgiveable than just giving up completely like Verso wants to do.

Renoir's take was, "Bitch, get off tiktok and go to sleep, lights out, you have final exams tomorrow, as your father eho cares about you I'm taking your phome away till you finish studying". WOW WHAT A MONSTER. SUPER VILLAIN DETECTED. HOLY SHIT THIS FATHER WHO LOVES HIS WIFE AND DAUGHTERS IS TRYING TO AWAY THE FUCKING HEROIN NEEDLE. OH NOOOOOOO.

If Verso gave a fuck about Aline or Alicia he'd be helping Renoir, not trying to stop him. They both want the same thing according to you. But they don't actually. Renoir gives a shit, Verso doesn't amd he's lying both to himself amd everyone. He's using Aline and Alicia as an excuse, but deep down it's not even about them anyone. Maybe it was long ago. Now, he's just tired and wants to cease existing because he thinks he's at fault for everything.

Renoir yes, but given how Aline and Clea treat her, it's more like they tolerate her. Clea barely respects her own mother. Verso was obviously the one Aline cared about the most, which is why she painted Verso in perfection, but kept Painted Alicia as a mute cripple.

Alicia post0Verso Ending would be a shut in whose mother still hater her and eventually be sold off to some noble as breeding stock once Renoir died.
>>712473667
He's not as bad as Aline, but he's still controlling. She's basically an adult and can make her own choices, especially considering she's had over thirty years of cumulative life experience. The ideal choice would be to respect her decision and check up on her to make sure she doesn't end up like Aline.

During act 3 he believes Malicia can act with moderation. During the final confrontation he witnesses:
Aline returning to the canvas despite it being hidden (proving that she will never be safe from her addiction unless the canvas is destroyed)
And Maelle lying to Renoir about her intentions about staying in the canvas.

These two things are what cause him to change his mind and get Verso's soul to stop painting.

>If Verso gave a fuck about Aline or Alicia he'd be helping Renoir, not trying to stop him
He does so throught act II. When he reaches Aline in the monolith, he refuses to continue her delusion about her dead son (his original) and kicks her out of the canvas, as he and Renoir always intended. He doesn't do it out of spite. Reread that dialogue. He just wants his mother to see the truth.
>, Verso doesn't amd he's lying both to himself amd everyone. He's using Aline and Alicia as an excuse, but deep down it's not even about them anyone.
You understood Verso the wrong way. Verso is a character that submits himself to great pain for the sake of pleasing others (Camp scene, real Verso painting when he doesn't want to anymore), and putting up a mask (the theme of his axom - not just lies, but masks) for the same reason.
Given that we know for sure that he is willing to endure pain for the beneffit of others, his suicide cannot be simply because he doesn't want to endure pain anymore. He says that, but he lies constantly, why would you believe that when his actions point towards a deeper motivation?

He wants to end the canvas and himself with it so Aline and Alicia are free from grief and guilt. Not for himself.

Playing FFX I was always excited to progress and see the characters interact with each other, so much that I found it hard to put the game down. E33 is fun and well-made, but I had a really hard time caring for most of the characters and didn't feel as invested.

If you want to changr my mind about Verso, the best I will give you is my agreement when you said
>his actions point toward a deeper motivation

It might be a little of what I'm saying and also a little of what you are saying. What if he has more dimensionality than being a plot device with a black amd white motive? Maybe part of him, the part he steuggles with, does just want everything to end, and we only see that part of him fully revealed when you side with Maelle and hes fading away saying "I dont want this life". You can pull whatever mental gumnastics you want, but dont waste my time or yoir time trying to invent a deeper reason for him to say those words othen than being suicidal at that moment.

The funniest part about this retard allegory is that Alicia is basically fated to be a literal opioid addict for life. Burns like hers never stop hurting, and early 20th century medicine knew no painkillers that weren't opium-based.

"I don't want this life" has layers of meaning, anon. It's not mental gymnastics when it's worded in such a specific way. It could have been
>I don't want life
>I don't want to live
>I want to die
etc
But it's specifically I don't want -this- life. What is particular to this life, the life of painted Verso? Being a copy of a man that the women in his family use to escape reality. Being constantly reminded that the women and sister he considers real (despite him being a painting, but with the memories of the real one) are really dying, in the real world, because of this.

'she'll suffer in the real world' has always been the shittiest reason to stay in the painting.
Painters spend a shitload of time in their paintings, she can just make a bunch of others and live most of the rest of her real life inside them
And yes Maellefags, constructively living your life in a bunch of other paintings is different than committing suicide in one

You don't get it, escapism is bad and she'll die after experiencing 60+ years or so of happiness with a family that's always loved her if she stays in there. Writers seem to be the only positive force in the setting's real world that we know about.
After seeing just one painting, we observe
>Painters using their demiurge powers to create self-aware entities that can experience the reality for their own entertainment, and then throw them away
>To subject entities they created to suffering and despair for no reason other than their personal bullshit
>To just kill them off for personal convenience
Shitty, unworthy people with no redeeming qualities whatsoever, who for some reason have power of creator gods. Killing them is an act of objective good, and if anything, getting burned is a way too easy death for them after what they were doing.

Then the actual mortal feud vs people who do the same shit but with different art form doesn't seem to be motivated by anything. However, you can easily see it motivated by concerns related to abuse of power. It's basically like trying to kill people who make monkey torture videos. You can generate infinite discussion over even basic binary moral arguments by having the perpetrator and primary representative of the most scandalous answer in the argument be a cute young girl and the representative of the most pragmatic answer be an archetypically handsome man.

It causes a distinct cognitive dissonance because while the average person is capable of decently abstract thoughts, the average person doesn't exist and is a mathematical abstraction between above and below average people. Below average people are going to be so reliant on appearances to determine what is good or bad they're going pick the most pleasant appearance to them while denigrating the least pleasant appearance which will usually be conveniently the opposite, but they can't if the opposition is still conventionally attractive. So they're stuck trying to make logical arguments, which they can't because they're below average.

The below average people out-populate the above average people, who do actually try to argue one way or another based on the merits of either side, but they're stuck dealing with swarms of below average people who keep saying stupid and incorrect things because they themselves are stupid and incorrect but believe themselves to be smart and correct (At least three people reading this are making such an assumption about their opposition right now), while trying and failing to rely on personal appearance-based arguments and ignoring actual narrative cues - which compels the above average people to correct them.

This means the above average people are being perpetually subjected to Cunningham's Law because packs of below average people who are either attracted to the cute girl or handsome man make the most buffoonish points possible and compel reasonable people to play chess with pigeons who wanna shit on the board.

You can apply this to any situation by the way. Dubiously moral cute girls solved a Superpermutation algorithm (the Haruhi Problem).

It's not even my personal opinion. It's just how I think people would justify Verso being wrong if he was a woman.

I only like reading books on particular subjects, I don't like reading fiction anymore. Vydia is much better, they just have to step up in the story department like E33 did.

People don't understand this game's story, it's not about p-zombies and AI ethics, it's about how people who play JRPGs are cripples who will die alone.

everything in the Canvas isn't real.

A room with ten 80 IQ individuals and five 140 IQ individuals has an average IQ of 100. But if you initiated a conversation there, you would be more likely to talk to an 80 IQ individual than a 140 IQ individual. Or, in simple terms - the below average people out-populate the above average people.

I honestly cannot bring myself to believe it means anything that this world isn't "real." I tried, anons.

Either the beings living in it are sentient or they're good enough at pretending that I don't care, therefore it doesn't matter its a simulated reality.

In that room, but that's not how IQ works. The bell curve distribution has an equal portion above and below the median. I'm afraid you're a 100 iq person who thinks he's 120.

Do you think the reason god hasn't come back yet is because he's up in heaven arguing with his angels on whether we're sentient enough to not be destroyed?
