Do I need to play Evil Within to understand Evil Within 2? Because I got them both on sale and tried playing Evil Within and hated it, so I stopped playing. After reading up on it, I've found that a fairly common opinion is that Evil Within is kind of "meh" as a game but Evil Within 2 is much better.

Is this true? If I didn't like the first game, will I like the second one more? And if I do just skip to the second one, will I be confused on the story, or will I still be able to make sense of it?

AW1 was a honestly not that good game but I liked it an unreasonable amount due to the writing and the atmosphere it had so if 2 can capture that same magic I'll be happy. Some gameplay improvements would be nice too I guess.

And the other bigger issue is the faces, they made a lot of characters much uglier (minus James who looks good). The music isnt AS good too.
