It's actually a pretty clever system that comes closer to satisfying both PvP and PvE players than any survival game yet. No PvP outside of (most) shipwrecks in Haggin Basin means you can farm all you want and play the core game area without worrying about PvP. Plus you can enjoy comfy aesthetic building without worrying about raids. The PvE area of the Deep Desert again allows (temporary) building without fear of raids for staging excursions into the DD. The DD is so massive that avoiding PvP and solo ratting is totally viable. Alternatively, people who want to seek out PvP will go to the event areas meant to draw players to certain locations.

At first I didn't like this system, but the more I thought about it and now am playing it the more I see the genius of it.

I'm always annoyed by how long the dash timer is in V rising. Especially with how absurdly aggressive later game bosses are. A dash only every 8 seconds is really rough and you're practically forced to also carry a defensive spell on top of that.

I beat Drac with an all offense loadout the first time but damn I had to learn that fight perfectly.

And the combat. Moving away from pure pvp was a good move but it's hard to deny it's just like conan in so many ways. Except now the dungeons aren't cool lore dumps. SCUM and UnrealWorld have rather detailed systems, but that really depends on how you define "interesting".

Honestly I found Valheims building and needing to vent smoke/keep out rain the most interesting personally because it was more than just managing inventory.

But yeah, I think "survival" mechanics are best when they move just beyond inventory/meter management, make them actually engaging in some way, have some actual gameplay around them.

Vintage Story is another game that does some interesting things on that front, like having to bury food in a root cellar to help preserve it longer.

I like it.

It's partially because I like Dune, but it's mostly because it's a survival game where survival is actually kind of a challenge. Arrays is a desert death world that wants you dead, and surviving on it isn't just a matter of killing enemy spawns that attack your base at regular intervals like 90% of other "survival" games.

Enshrouded gives you a buff for resting in your home based on comfort levels which can have many factors. It's not small, either. You pretty much cannot function unless you have those food and home buffs. Of course if you set up a fire outdoors you can get a rest buff or if it's under shelter but the home buff is the best in that regard.
