My friends and I played an MMO together and I got close (in-game) with the guy who lead our static until one day he decided the game was ruining his life and straight-up deleted his character. We still talked on AIM off and on, though. Like a year later, I was hanging out with my dog on the couch when my friends came in and they just stood in the doorway making small talk while trying to stifle their smiling/giggling. I don't know why this of all things, but I asked, "Is (his name) standing around the corner?" Then he jumped out between them with a big smile on his face. I was fucking stunned. I never told them but I was kinda' pissed off because I like my anonymity (obviously) and the whole thing was just awkward and made me feel bad, but he was cool, it's not a big deal.
I don't know how I guessed it, it was so out of left field. Nothing like that had ever happened before. They must have been name dropping him recently in conversations or something so when I saw them acting weird I instinctively put two and two together, but I legitimately don't remember.
