Why do people like it

it was interesting at the time

It got translated right when homestuck was on a really long hiatus. That's it. Everyone on tumblr who was into homestuck transferred their obsession to OFF for however many weeks that hiatus was and made it permanently minorly relevant

>2008
The indie game scene was very small back then.

The music is fantastic, the enemy designs are really interesting and captivating. The world is super surreal and fascinating, the story is really up to interpretation and ripe for examination. The characters are really strong and the style of writing is distinct and unique.
It also was more early on in the field of RPG maker hits to break into the mainstream indie niche.

In general it's just a great game, despite its combat being more of a simple means to an end.

Eh, that's why it was found, sure. But the reason it became so popular (even being the 7th most popular game on Tumblr in 2013 iirc) was because the game itself was good.

Also, unrelated, the Homestuck fandom on Tumblr is also a large part of why Danganronpa games were given English releases since a translated AAR of the first DR game on the PSP was posted on Tumblr and gained a huge following there during a Homestuck hiatus.

The art and music are fucking cool, I'd argue that Pepper Steak is the best regular battle theme of all time
The Batter is a super badass protagonist, too

hey it's cool for the game but I wouldn't go that far

I like simplistic designs. And I like stoic protagonists

It's a finished product, unlike deltatroon

The only thing I know about this game is that the battle music is very good and that the batter is apparently absolutely fucking based.

Videogames?

Mortis Ghost would have surpassed Toby 10 times over if he kept it up. He made OFF during Highschool. I hate to see a waste in potential.

He is a niche comic book artist and he scrapped, what, 3 videogames already. He is on his 4th attempt to make a new game.

Did that Belgium waffle stitched together a coherent game concept or is he going off by vague hints for his comics again?

Game's remaster will release on August 15th. They also will remake new Dedan theme, since people really dislikes when Tobert puts his leitmotifs in other games.

Probably the later. He said his new game attempt is called help and it's something with Playstation 1 aesthetic. No real genre. And he stopped posting new stuff about the game sometime in previous autumn.
