How could something like this happen to literally one of the biggest corporations (top 3 biggest) in the world?

Microsoft accomplished a very, very difficult thing to do during the 2000s and that was elevate the Xbox brand to be on par with PlayStation during the 2000s. The truth is that the Xbox 360 absolutely was superior compared to the PS3. That is a fact. Every single multiplatform game just ran better on the Xbox 360. And to throw it all away in an hour like this... Microsoft is so fucking dogshit. lol. they're gonna get killed on PC as well soon. kek

Probably a worse downfall than Sega in some ways. They deserve it for mismanaging IPs all the time.

suits dont value art and see it as a means to make number go up. Proven means of making number go up coincidentally is not what customers want. Therefore more budget must be put into to convincing them that they want it.

What did Sega do? I'm sorry, I'm too young for that. I do know that Sega started working with Microsoft on the original Xbox, and that is sort of seen as the successor to their last actual console, the Dreamcast.

Keeping their market share in the gaming console market wasn't nearly as appealing as potentially dominating the home entertainment market.
Shit dicks call it "late stage capitalism" and they honestly aren't too far from the truth. Corporate types only want to see exponential growth and will sacrifice their good products to chase after the next big thing. Take a look at how dreadful Google's search engine is, corporations are always eager to slaughter the golden goose.

Sega forgot to produce consoles. They released before Sony Playstation 2 and everyone wanted one. There was far more hype for it than the PS2 by a wide margin. But they only made like 180k consoles and they sent a big chunk of their inventory to markets that NEVER buy consoles. So they were sold out for months, literally no one had one (I had one somehow because a crackhead robbed a truck and sold it to my dad who was a pawn broker), and it wasn't until LONG after the PS2 launched that they had units available and by that time people had given up and got the next best thing.
Shame really, because had they actually produced units to sell and been ready we'd probably still have a Sega console today. Beyond that they did nothing wrong. The quality of their games is about the same as it always has been. Mostly shit with a few gems.

Which markets are we talking about?

The same thing is happening with the Switch 2 except this time the swine are actually rushing to the trough instead of avoiding it.
Crazy times.

Sega of Japan purposely tanked Sega of American because they were angry bitter cucks (most Japanese businessmen). They also decided to coincide new console releases with console add-ons to previously existing consoles in the American market. They could get away with it until Sony came to the market just to brutally rape them.
