The original metroid's lack of a map system forces the player to draw their own map, something which leads the player to map out which is a whole mechanic on it's own. The original also has a darker feel due to it's limitations. You're not gonna catch me playing the original anytime again, but I don't think it's helpful to judge a remake as "objectively better" because that's how we get all the remake slop we get now.
Anyway I like the first 2 REmakes, twin snakes (goofy cutscences are peak), and the yakuza kiwami remakes. Again all of these games have things the originals do better, but I like these ones
