The peak of not only JRPG's, but gaming as a whole. From the story, to the characters, to the gameplay, to even the character designs, FFVII is untouchable. One of these days I may even play it.

for a basic, straightforward turn based combat system, it's pretty damn good. it's quick, flashy, effective and satisfying.

the core mechanics are really good, the problem is that the vanilla game isnt hard enough to give you any real incentive to utilize them. new threat mod fixes this and makes it truly the perfect 10/10 GOAT jrpg.

The side characters in your group might as well not even be there after the halfway point. The plot and pacing gets increasingly muddier after the ruins.
Midgar? Peak
Post-midgar - Solid
Post-Centra Ruins - mediocre
It's a great game with glaring flaws.

Diamond WEAPON to Midgar Raid - OUR GOD IS AN AWESOME GOD
Northern Crater - eh

FF7 is a game of extreme peaks and valleys but even though I have criticisms of the game, it's still my favorite of all time
