Painted Verso wants the 'real' versions of his family to be happy and survive. Furthermore he's tired of living in a fake world and is mortified by the fact that the last fragment of the real Verso's soul is imprisoned painting forever. His belief is that the boy doesn't want to keep painting anymore either.
So Maelle ignores all of what matters to him, pats him on the ass, and gives him piano and an eventual death as a consolation prize.
