Every ds had rings and buffs. Queelign's Greatsword from the DLC is pretty much dedicated to thrusting sword knight builds or bloody helice in the base game, farm a brass shield of gear for a great one and you can play like the old games.

A Knight would know to do more than mash attack to swing sword left swing sword right. If you want that depth of combat maybe Breath of the Wild is more up your alley.

So don't. My current run switches between just a straight sword and a morning star depending on the situation. I put a bunch of points into dex that neither weapon benefits from because it's a faith build otherwise. There's a couple points thrown into arc so I could use some dragon and bloodflame incants also doing nothing for my weapons. The stats are all over the place and the weapons are tiny and underupgraded and the damage is still fucked up. You don't need a perfect optimized Youtube build or to stack every single buff in the game before engaging, you just need the common sense to combine things that complement each other.

I feel kind of dirty using ashes because they often get the boss's entire attention while I cheaply attack him from behind, but so many bosses are just doing an endless amount of things at once with no breathing room, it's what I most dread replaying this game.

I actually personally find shields so useful in these games, I focus a lot on leveling up endurance, timing my blocks and only dodging when I feel confident that I won't miss, I've never liked parrying because it only works with very specific enemies and bosses and I don't feel like guessing

In MH you die slower, so it's fine that boss dies slow too. DeS and DS1 understood that it wouldn't work with fast time to kill. In ER time to die is even faster, yet the bosses are slower. ER's dogshit damage (both to player and enemies) is not a nitpick
It's From feeling like each game needs to be harder than the last, and running out of ideas.
This is also why ER is filled with unintuitive pauses and speed changes in enemy attacks.

DaSIII and its DLC was already approaching the upper limit of what Souls difficulty could reasonably be. In trying to exceed it, ER crossed that limit and the system buckled as a result.
Which didn't even need to happen, they could have expanded on the newly-added jump as a critical element of combat, rather than an "avoid this specific attack" button for a handful of enemies.
Instead they just made it all fucked up and slapped a bandage on it in the form of spirit ashes.

Most ashes are dependent on the weapon's base AR, then scaling. You can intuit which ash scales best, dependent on what initial infusion it goes with. Moreover, most of them are in their own little sections or outright color coded. The only time it gets tricky is lightning, as lightning infusion scales dex, but lightning aow is faith based. Most of the time, fire is faith, magic is int, purple is physical, etc.

The games get a normie audience and I explicitly remember this same audience complaining about the difficulty and the "unfairness" in dark souls.
As even the normies begin to adapt they have to increase the difficulty and/or time one way or another in order to keep upping that ante or anyone that beat dark souls is just gonna cruise through it because it's gonna be the same shit over and over and the games gained that popularity in big part because of that difficulty.
It sounds obvious but it's a very hard thing to achieve, not only you gotta balance the normie and the actual vidya player but you also have to add in the seasoned autist that has been playing religiously since demon souls and the guy that has never played a roll sloppa in his life.
And ultimately development is a give and take, is your team really gonna dedicate thousands of man hours into this that could've gone somewhere more noticeable?

Just use status effects.
You don't even need to alter your build, just infuse your weapons with Cold or Blood and play as usual.
Elden Ring does have huge HP bars, but this is balanced out by having lots of ways to increase player damage, but that requires a bit of extra game knowledge.
But with status it's just a matter if choosing the right infusion and even at level 1 you'll deal good damage against bosses.

You HAD TO dodge attacks instead of tanking and regenning HP. Doing either was not difficult. Last Zeldas got the point and implented it exactly like that. the only thing I've found to be kinda terrible in ER is dual wielding daggers. daggers fuckin SUCK unless you're mashing an OP weapon art like on the blackblade.
They're great in nightreign though, mostly due to the addition of stuff like successive attacks negate damage.

naw they didn't, there's still as much tracking as there always was on zinogre slams. What they did change is that monsters turn faster since gen4. But you can still roll out of arkveld flips fin, never forced to i-frame, evading hitboxes is enough.

The reason for the health bloat is because stance breaking is a mechanic, as is bleed.

DeS did not have stance break and bleed was weaker.
They fully expect player to get in stance break crits to deal significant damage for Elden Ring fights.

Game should be beatable with longsword+X and no armor, with a medium level of skill, and minimal time investment. DeS was, Das1 was, DaS 2 was, BB was, but Elden Ring isn't. No matter how much you cope, Elden Ring does not fulfill this criteria. Some sweat can do it with infinite hours no shit, and any retard can beat it with the minmaxed AI abusing, status abusing, DLC weapon abusing build, but that only highlights the flaws of the game. This dogshit boss arms race that started with DaS 3 needed to fucking end then and there. if I wanted to play Ninja Gaiden or Nioh, I'd play Ninja Gaiden or Nioh. Either give me Sekiro movement/defensive options, or fuck off and make the bosses normal again.

The thing is that there are too many stackable buffs, so the boss HP is balanced around you using these buffs. I may use 1 weapon buff and one body/aura buff and that's it, because spending 30 seconds drinking/casting 10 different buffs is boring and gay. But you can delete bosses by stacking all shit available.
