Steam Deck
Steam Deck

How many people actually play Steam games on this thing instead of just using it like a PSP and hack it for their pirate library?

You'd be the majority. Main people who buy steam deck have big steam libraries. If one wants one for other reasons there are other options better suited.

Me either outside of retroarch, and I only played Symphony of the night, castlevania 64, and megaman X3 and X4. There are too many good pc games for me to want to play nintendo shit when I already own a switch. As much as I like mystery dungeon red & blue remake im not going to download it on my deck when I can play explorers of time/darkness/sky.

the deck is too weak to run current gen games
they shill it as a pc with your entire steam library but every time you see them playing just a few indies or emulating old games because that's all they can run

digital foundry has turned into such a joke. you can very easily get 30-50 fps consistently in SH2 with the deck and the game itself is just poorly optimized considering it dips to 40 on the PS5 (at least it did at launch, really doubt they've updated the performance lmao).

You mean the obviously limited handheld pc is struggling to run obviously overbloated and over budget games that came out after it? Whomst would have thought that could happen. Oh yeah everyone that owns it, which it doesnt matter to most of them because it plays literally almost every game that came out before it perfectly fine. You could buy games from 2021 to 1996 only and still not run out of new stuff to play for over a decade and it wont cost you half your mutt wages to buy games but nice try you disingenuous faggot

Judging by Reddit and /v Pleddit Vegan Mustard Pee Sea/ race it looks like all the people who hate modern games because they won't make new games from they grew up are just pirating Nintendo products on their $650 Steam Deck. And complaining still that they old PC games aren't getting beloved sequels, while simultaneously running 4VPNs and Denuvo backdoor crypto mining malware decryptors on pirated software.

P.C.M.R. behavior.

Yeah I'm aware of that, was more of a question for the other anon, which handheld he thought was best for piracy. Deck is fine but imo the youtube tutorials can be misleading if you're a newbie since there's a ton of ways of doing the same thing but imo the best way is almost always to just add a game as non steam executable instead of messing with lutris and manually creating prefixes

SNES emulators will definitely have better battery life than of you play someone more intense like some 3d games or GameCube or Wii emulators. I never time it but it's obviously longer with older systems. You can also adjust some settings to make it use even less power while playing stuff that does not need as much to save even more. I think it's a decky plugin.

In some of the less demanding areas I've even been able to hit 60 FPS at 1080p low.

You should do it for the first 30 minutes to an hour of a new game. Gets you a good idea of what you need to adjust on settings to get the most out of it or just to figure out if its worth playing on your system.

Steam Deck does a pretty decent job at automatically shifting power usage depending on what you're playing. You can get 6 hours normally just playing SNES games not changing anything but pretty sure you can get 8 hours and over cranking the CPU TDP down super low with low brightness

I use it to play mostly steam games, I rarely touch emulators.
Every now and then a new game comes out that interests me and because you know, games are not limited to AAA and high demanding shits, I can run it on my deck just fine. I don't need to resort to old games. There's next fest demos of stuff coming out that's running fine on it, go look.

OP doesn't comprehend these replies. If he were mentally capable of grasping this concept then he wouldn't be thinking Steam Deck needs to be hacked in 2022+3. No doubt he has been told countless times that it's a PC but the information just slips right off his smooth brain rather than soaking in. It's possible that he's never even used a PC and assumes that installing third-party software on any device inherently involves some kind of jailbreak.

consolewarring over handhelds is stupid. both the switch 2 and the steam deck fulfill the needs of their target audiences. there's even more overlap than you might think. i certainly use my Deck more than the Switch 1/2 (probably with just Hades, Dark Souls 1+3, and TRPGs like Tactics Ogre alone), but I'm not going to pretend like I don't have hundreds of hours logged on Fire Emblem, Mario Kart, TotK, Monster Hunter GU, Mario Maker 2, etc..

It's not an apples to apples comparison, since SoC's aren't directly comparable. You have to run a suite of video game tests to get an effective benchmark, not to mention that the DLSS on the Switch 2 performs much better than FSR in terms of visual clarity and iirc better in terms of performance anyway, which reflects the more mature tensorcore architecture.

TFLOPs and synthetic tests don't give you a realistic sense of how good a machine actually is at running video game software. The Deck itself fails a lot of these tests compared to its common points of comparison but delivers a very respectable performance in a lot of games nonetheless.
