I believe juan seguin was sent out of the fort prior to the battle to spread the word that it would be happening and he probably witnessed a fair bit of it, he came back afterward and reported on the aftermath, too

the memorable part is that the entire mexican army (thousands od soldiers) got waylayed so hard by 200 Texan troops that Sam Houston had enough time to create the Texan army out of nothing and then they slaughtered the Mexicans by the truckload, including the ones who tried to surrender that's what "remember the alamo" generally means, the same principal as "don't tread on me"

>bunch of retards ignore the good advice of everyone around them trying to save their lives so they can go out in a blaze of glory
>this is used successfully as excellent propaganda to justify taking a bunch of land from Mexico
That's the lesson, right?

80% of those who died at the Alamo in 1836 were Scottish or Scots descent, as well as 4 actual native born Scots.

To the People of Texas & All Americans in the World-

Fellow Citizens & compatriots-

I am besieged, by a thousand or more of the Mexicans under Santa Anna - I have sustained a continual Bombardment & cannonade for 24 hours & have not lost a man - The enemy has demanded a surrender at discretion, otherwise, the garrison are to be put to the sword, if the fort is taken - I have answered the demand with a cannon shot, & our flag still waves proudly from the walls - I shall never surrender or retreat. Then, I call on you in the name of Liberty, of patriotism & everything dear to the American character, to come to our aid, with all dispatch - The enemy is receiving reinforcements daily & will no doubt increase to three or four thousand in four or five days. If this call is neglected, I am determined to sustain myself as long as possible & die like a soldier who never forgets what is due to his own honor & that of his country - Victory or Death.

William Barret Travis.

Even from the trailers it is clear that Konami are creatively impotent, without Kojima they will not be able to make Metel Gear. Therefore, the closer to the original, the better.
