It had a kinda good story, narrative shifts and obfuscation that were cool. It has nice aesthetics and themes. Overall I'd say gameplay and building characters was fun though the parry ease made it a bit repetitive at times. 8/10, not game of all time but fairly good, especially considering the trash that has been released this year

Clair Obscur is incredibly astroturfed, and the fanbase is the most obnoxious fanbase of any more recent game, but it's still a pretty good game. Not as good as they say it is, but still good.

Nier is also fantastic though, so you might just have bad taste.

Combat is heavily inspired by Shadow Hearts/ Legend of Dragoon. Pictos system is as simple as FF IX, it has an old school JRPG overworld like old FF games, Chrono trigger or Ni no Kuni, the tone is on the lines of Folklore and Shadow Hearts, the music is Nier(ish). If you like those you´ll like the game if you don´t you probably won´t.

And BTW Nier is great. If you don´t like it that´s on you.

The month it came out is long over and people still love it.
Astroturfing and things actually being good can only be told apart by simply playing it.
There are also some hints though like if the game has no black main character or even no gay sex, the chance of it being astroturfing is lower.

it captures the essence of a JRPG - interesting fantasy worlds (reminiscent of Jules Verne), world map, turn based combat, customization systems, etc.

but it misses hard on balance, story (post Act I) and unappealing character designs (lune, sciel, monoko, esciel all fugly).
