the gunblade is mid. it's got a mediocre as fuck attack string and it's heavy attack gimmick might look cool but is functionally just.. hitting harder. with an evasive aspect that won't evade shit, and a dash attack that'll probably get you killed.

Do not underestimate its r1s. They are very quick relatively to how much damage they do. R1R1R2 is quick as fuck and outputs a ton of damage.
>it's heavy attack gimmick might look cool but is functionally just.. hitting harder
Nah, the actual gimmick is having a fuckload of range on the first R2 and being able to capitalize on an opening with the second. It's one of the best stance breakers in the game and it also seemingly multiplies elemental effects so with elemental buffs you can stack a debuff on enemy very quickly.

Icarus is a legion arm, not a main weapon. Once you empty your legion you'll either need to wait for it to recharge or use a catalyst so they're not really the same thing. The bow is a very different play-style, it's evasion focused and can get constant damage in. It is low damage per shot but the ability to constantly attack at a range and keep the dps up is very good. The correctly timed charged shots are moderately powerful and both charged fable arts are strong, especially the huge nuke arrow. If you can find reliable openings to get that off in a boss fight then you can do huge chunks of damage with it. Also, the weapon is incredible for exploring levels since you can take a lot of stuff out before it gets to you and thus avoid running into ambushes. Even when played right it's still probably not the fastest boss killer, I'll agree with that, but it's definitely not dogshit. It works well with the consecutive attack and dodge attack amulets.

How does it compare to the Nioh 3 demo?
I'm just curious if pretty much all defense styles are viable: block, dodging, parrying or if it leans on 1/2 out of the 3
Anonymous No.712594275 >>712594527

I spent a lot more time dodging in the DLC compared to the base game because several of the enemies/bosses have long ass strings that will fuck you if you mess up a parry.
If you learn the parry timings it makes things easy as expected, but blocking and dodging are still very viable.

Can you parry the combs? Like one of the things with some of the soulslike games I see is that your character sometimes doesn't react fast enough after parrying something so you can't chain parries together
Anonymous No.712594708 >>712601554
>>712594132
Parrying is generally the best (though hardest to pull off) but the idea that it's always the best is kind of a surface level view. You have a lot more power over positioning with dodging which can mean being able to pull off extra hits that you wouldn't be able to do with just guarding or parrying. So I find myself using all the options

>>712594527
Think sekiro style parrying, except it's a lot tighter at 8 frames instead of 12.
Anonymous No.712594846
>>712594527
Yes. If you're good you can parry entire combos. Even the super ultimate attacks bosses have can be parried. It's just very risky if you're not perfect at it because your flow can get thrown off very easily enemies in the DLC hit very hard, even on block, so you can go from 100 to 0 really quick.

I just realized this despite knowing the DLC takes place in the past and I feel so fucking retarded.
For some reason I thought the swamp monster you fight in the DLC was the same one from the base game that was weakened after you kicked its ass. But it's the other way around. You kick its ass in the past and then it comes back stronger in the future. I was wondering why you couldn't finish it off in the DLC but it has to escape in order to fight it in the future.

He was slow as fuck and you literally just had to keep hitting his leg to stagger him and then could kill him in a couple of fatal attacks. It was a pure gimmick fight, and not even a hard one.

Simon and the Alchemists in general are just fucking assholes. They intentionally incorporated Ergo into daily life as much as possible knowing full well what would happen so there was no stopping the outbreak once it went into full swing. They probably could have kept it contained but to them the more people infected the better so they had no problem letting it ravage the city.

Weapon damage scalers (Technique, Motivity, Advance) all hard lock at 60. Don't bother trying to level up more than one damage scaler for your first run. Pick one and only one and stick with until you get 30 points into it. Health and vitality are also the same way kind of. They both soft lock at 30 and fall off hard at 60 IIRC. But the game is infinitely repeatable, so eventually you can just get every stat to 100 anyway. But basically, focus on getting Vitality and your damage scaler starting off, with stamina in close third.

Avoid the heavy, slow-swinging weapons for your first time through, they're shit for the most part. This game HATES STR builds something fierce, and will never let you forget that fact. The game also HATES Advance builds mostly due to the fact that there's barely any Advance weapons in the fucking game. But it's not the same issue as Motivity builds fo the most part (STR). It's all about Technique with this shit. For Legion arms, focus on Fulminis, Aegis, or Puppet String. Ignore Deus Ex Machina and And Pandemonium like a cloud of airborne AIDS. The DLC legion arms will basically render Falcon Eyes obsolete anyway. Lie all the time, every time.

As for what happened to her, it's notable that Gepetto's monocle can be found at the site of the final dlc boss fight, perhaps indicating that there was a struggle and Lea escaped. Although it's hard to imagine that she would leave without Carlo, so maybe something else happened? It is a mystery.

Ergo has always been around. It's basically a person's "soul", but when someone dies it usually just disperses harmlessly. But when Kroud is around it's able to absorb it and crystallize it. Still, in that form it wasn't considered valuable until they discovered that people like Sophia could hear the past voices and memories of a person within the Ergo. When the Alchemists arrived they discovered the Ruins which had a ton of Ergo inside of it because it was full of Kroud that was absorbing it, and from there they did experiments and found out they could use it for stuff like powering puppets. Things evolved from there and they started experimenting with more, eventually leading to Simon's sect wanting to use it as a way to evolve and become God and yada yada.

How the Ruins Guardian got there or what it truly is hasn't been explained yet, but will probably be touched on in the DLC. Also I should correct some misinformation that I posted earlier like a tard. I said that Icarus carried elemental grindstone effects which is not true. I had just unlocked it and fought the mini swamp monster with it while using a fire buff. For some reason I thought the orange glow of the enhanced blades was fire but after using it more today I realize that it doesn't carry the element, that's just the built in visual effect of the buffed blades.

Nope. Romeo hasn't been made into the Puppet King yet, which was part of Gepetto's plan to start to Frenzy. But at the end of the DLC he presumably kills Lea and takes Romeo's body to do just that.
The stuff that happens in the DLC is caused by the Alchemists still dicking around with Ergo's effects on puppets and their early stages of experimenting on people with the Petrification Disease, leading to the creation of Carcasses. That's why there's a whole secret facility with "patients" in it. The shit that went down at Krat Zoo may have been the first signs of the outbreak, but they covered it up by saying that it burned down in a fire.

The sound design is also fucking excellent, the slashes are crunchy, the explosions are meaty and I love the little clicks/whirring of the mechanism resetting, as well as the load/dropping shells

Fromsoftware needs to stop doing rewrites a few months before launch and scrambling to implement (broken) questlines at the last minute. They always just turn the level designers and artists loose and then jury-rig some nonsensical dialogues and item descriptions around it, and the fanbase eats it up as "muh deep lore".

LoP suffers from similar issues with the terrible translations (though much improved in the DLC), but at least it does have a defined story and timeline with only some mystery and ambiguity after you piece it all together.

Some of the assemblable dlc weapons are actually pretty broken.
Flamethrower handle is good when paired with elemental heads to allow 2 different elements on 1 weapons. The bunsen burner blade is also very fast for how long it is.
La Vendatta blade has really high block for it's speed and the explosion gimmick.
Silent evangelist handle is probably the strongest handles in the game. Decent speed, huge weapon arc and forward movement.
If you want something funny, combine the puppet of the future blade with the silent evangelist handle. For one that actually works, use the bones-cutting saw blade instead.

Advance is viable but it's for freaks looking to do wacky shit. You're relying on Legion Arms, specific talisman set-ups and you're digging into the Assembly system for interesting combiunations.

Technique is the easiest by far, you pretty much get all the fast weapons and the best legion arms. Motivity is fine but slow weapons can really struggle against some bosses, so its more for if you want to focus on blocking.

Arlecchino has the Ergo of the murderer but is not the murderer himself. Arlecchino proves many times that he has his own goals and ideals, and whilst he is most likely influenced by the Ergo it does not make him the murderer himself.

>>712641471
That would mean every puppet out there is also somebody else in regards to which ergo they have. Which is false, considering Polendina and Pulcinella are very much their own people who have been shown not to have any basis on any former existing people. Puppets can very much awaken their "own" ego, outside of what their ergo contains.

>>712641739
Rosaura is a puppet herself and was basically Carlo's sister. She would know very well if her "brother" was actually standing in front of her in the form of P. Romeo wasn't actually like himself for some time until he "remembered" and began turning the puppets against carcasses, and Sophia will always be a fringe case due to her ability as a listener.

(Which makes it complicated as the going theory is that Carlo himself could have been a listener and is the white butterfly guiding both P and Rosaura... but I digress)

>>712642016
Camille saved a baby and that's it. Again, just because it's a slight influence DOESN'T make them that person. And she is potentially a listener also, complicating the matter.

>>712642121
And many times it also proven they are not the same person. Antonia, Rosaura, and even Lea initially does not recognise P as Carlo, and they were all people that were closest to him.

I will say that P is very much influenced by Carlo - yet they are two separate entities. They are not the same person. They co-exist yet are not one another.

You should do what is needed
Using only one defensive measure is going to lead to a bad time

Advance is viable, although you're restricted to what I consider "plain" movesets because it has no boss weapons. You want to use weapon handles that scale with advance (like electric coil stick), and then replace the head with the element you want (like salamander dagger for caracass enemies)

He literally is. Romeo’s entire character proves you wrong, retard.

Elemental grindsones can be replaced by the buffs. I think the most powerful one is the perfect block grindstone because it gives you a breather and auto-builds huge amount of stagger on any enemy.

I'm asking the devs to add the Croc, Veronique and Lumacchio in the boss rematch thing.

Perhaps there's two tiers of ego awakening: one without memories and one with. Romeo and Sophia have their memories and I think can be considered the same persons they were. The others do not (not sure about Arle), but I think that makes them more like people with amnesia rather than not the people whose ergo they possess.

Except Perfect Parrying everything will actually lead to you putting bosses on the back foot, while dodging everything will not. Not all defensive options are made equal in this game.
