say bye bye to vidya
bro, out of my 400 games on steam, 50 are now delisted
>19 are abandonware
>20 got replaced by a remaster
>11 got merged into the base game's depot
alice madness returns and alpha protocol got readded to the store though, so that's nice
but still, WHAT THE FUCK ANONS, that's like 10 percent of my library gone from the store and other people can't get that shit legally anymore
wonder what games will get axed next
at this point there's unironically no reason not to simply pirate shit in 2025

is sleeping dogs definitive really that big of a deal thoughaleverbeit
it's just the same game except with all the nickel and dime DLCs packed-in

you can ignore the DLC cars if you really want since they're basically paid cheats, and i felt like the game would be too short without year of the snake or nightmare in north point, plus if they were left as paid DLC i probably wouldn't have bought them

replacing GTAs with definitive editions was significantly more tragic

It still annoys me that Bethesda replaced The Ultimate Doom with Doom + Doom II instead of just creating a new app ID and giving it to people who owned the existing apps. Having separate "Doom II" and "Doom + Doom II" entries in my library is idiotic, not to mention Final Doom already having been copied into Doom II before that.

ok i see it, the original has more contrast and looks vibrant and better in the dark. there are points where the differences are more subtle in the daylight, and even in cutscenes cus it seems like it was just changes to where points of light were put, but some scenes especially closeups look extremely different.
an asset here or there was swapped as well, but it took a side by side for me to notice cus i don't own and aren't extremely familiar with the original

game still kicks ass tho

in the case of sleeping dogs, they turned up the brightness and turned down the saturation for absolutely no reason, would post some comparison pix if I had them installed
most people don't even notice but I'm the kind of sperg whomst notices that shit
besides, definitive editions and the like are just jewish cashgrabs every time and have no reason to exist since they add nothing of value ever

That's not delisted, you DO get that very item along with vanilla Doom 3, and BFG edition as well, if you buy the solitary Doom 3 listing on the store. You just can't buy any of those individually.
Can check here:
https://steamdb.info/sub/17411/apps/
Same with F.E.A.R. and its two expansions being sold as one package. There even was a time when you needed to get the whole trilogy of games for sixty bucks to play the first one.
Other than that, yeah, so many games becoming abandonware in this commercialized age it's ridiculous.
Anonymous No.712593402 [Report] >>712593635 >>712593668 >>712594313
I assume most delistings are motivated by money, in one way or another (like not wanting to renew licenses for copyrighted music, not wanting the original game to compete with a worse but more expensive remaster, etc.); and when it comes to Bethesda, they probably think they're doing the world a favor by copy-pasting expansions into base games, as it would never occur to some suit-wearing executive that this shits up the Steam libraries of people who already bought those games and now have one copy of Doom, two copies of Doom II, three copies of Final Doom, and no option to play just the first without downloading everything. At least their intentions were good at best and understandable at worst.
But for some games, I can't imagine a possible reason, except maybe the developer/publisher so abruptly going out of business that no one picked up the distribution rights. Maybe that's what happened to Scratches. But actually, it isn't; I just checked and the listed publisher has a game out this year. So what the fuck.
As for OP's list, at least people who bought the original Dear Esther got the remaster for free. The developers are still very braindead for assuming that the original Source engine game has no value, though.

They might as well have just removed the original version of Soul Reaver 2 as well, given that they clearly don't want anyone to buy it. I don't think that just the second game is a threat to sales of 1&2 remaster, but the publisher evidently thinks so, judging by how those constant discounts completely stopped. For context, those frequent discounts continue for Defiance and Blood Omen 2.

Honestly, that's a good thing. In your image, you basically got Quake 1+2 and Doom 1+2's modern ports for free AND gained the DLC in the install, no need to mess with the individual depots when they're already installed with the base game.

Unless you chimp out about "muh purity" or whatever bullshit /v/ is on the rag about this week, there is no loss in consolidating the depots and giving you all the content for a purchase.

Warner Bros. did this with F.E.A.R. on Steam for the longest time. It was unavailable except in the overpriced bundle with the mediocre F.E.A.R. 2 + DLC and the awful F.E.A.R. 3, and this situation was really fucking weird because the first game by itself was available on GOG at the same time, obviously for much cheaper. I also remember that Bundle Stars (now Fanatical) had a full-series bundle for like $5, and I don't remember if this was before or after the original game's stand-alone purchase option was removed from Steam, but that bundle was of course drastically cheaper than the equivalent Steam store bundle ever got. It was like the publisher just wanted people to buy the game anywhere other than Steam.

What do source ports have to do with anything OP wrote? Even if you're going to bring your own replacement for everything except the .wad file, it doesn't change the facts regarding the availability of that .wad file via Steam. If you want to claim that piracy of game assets is justified when the engine is open-source, then just say piracy instead of pretending OP implied anything about not using source ports.

Okay, so people should pirate the games because Bethesda is bad. That's fine. But the earlier comment about source ports was still non-sequitur brain-rot garbage. OP didn't write or imply anything about not using source ports, the purchase of a game and the use of a source port for that game are not mutually exclusive, a game's engine being open-source does not decrease a game's value except to a subhuman ape who would think that pirating .wad is easier than pirating .exe, and in fact OP already advocated for piracy right there in the opening post so I don't even know what your problem is.
