My own head canon is that Crono is woken up my his mom and she says he should go to the fair.
But when Crono goes to the front door of his house and tries to open it, he hears that strange melody and is unable to open it.
Then he asks mom what's that about, but she's too busy with house work.
Unable to leave, Crono has to stay at home and figure out why he can't go outside.
Eventually Crono and Jina will have passionate sex and he doesn't even want to leave.
Whole Lavos thing doesn't even affect them in anyway as they will be long dead before that day comes.
