Anyone feel like they artificially limited themselves by having every single course have to be part of the open world? Not only does it mean they can't add any retro tracks, but they can't get as creative with the new tracks because they have to fit in the open world.

I hope if they add more courses they aren't required to be part of the map. Because how do you have this amazing remix and then not have the greatest course in Mario Kart history in the game.

This is my first Mario Kart game. I thought it would be competitive. Does the switch version have leaderboards and such? Seems a bit barebones.

Just because retro tracks exists they don't play the same due to all the new mechanics.

Is this how you spend your life, seething about people having fun with games you'll never play?

I dont understand why GP needs to be the way it is when knockout rally exists. That satisfies the need for interconnected courses and a cross country race type feel while showing off the open world, that along with free roam is enough. GP could have just been normal 3 laps, and you have to go out of your way to get 3 laps even online.
At least they could have added classic GP to single player and classic race to online
I also feel like they heavily underestimated how many people play MK for the single player content

I assume they were worried people might ignore the open world, so they're forcing us into it.
I want an option to just race on the tracks, because they're genuinely great. The straights in between are fine, but the tracks are very good and I only get to do one lap.

How I feel about Linear vs Open World in every single case I've ever seen.
What "fun" does it ultimately add to be "seamless" if making it seamless takes up a tremendously higher amount of resources to figure out, and likely has you lose sight of the quality of individual tracks.
I really hate how boilerplate a lot of actual tracks look. Because they had to make it all interconnected, the "bridging" sections of the overworld have to fit with the aesthetics of the destinations, so you can tell they sometimes downgraded the destinations with what assets they had from their "tileset", and made the track identical to the original game, but the aesthetic is missing almost all of the flair.
Wario Stadium comes to mind. It's the Nintendo DS track IIRC, but it looks completely different in World. Choco Mountain also looks totally weird.
If they had scoped the game to only have tracks, then they would've developed all of the individual assets they needed for every track, like they did in all previous games. But because it's Open World they developed "template design" and remade levels with slop.

I love how more balanced the items are in World. In previous Mario Karts, once you got your item you were locked into a mindset of its use and functionality. But it World it seems like every item is constantly useful and a potential game changer.

Is it just me or is it not that deep bro? These NPC hunters are wild. I'm genuinely curious why these people care about such a non-issue. It's such a weird comment, like what are you doing here? Normal people don't care about this kind of online controversy.

It's great but somehow not as much of a gut-punch level of "great" as MK8 felt.
I played through it. Enjoyed it. It's very very good obviously. But I'm left feeling like a lot of it didn't really stick with me. And MK8 had me mesmerized by tracks like Mount Wario, and Thwomp Ruins.

I didn't think the tracks were very memorable in this one. Somehow there's so much variety everywhere that it just kinda felt like I was watching Space Jam 2, as in, hours of corporate "franchise-slop" for brand-advertisement. The game feels commercial.
Nintendo is losing their identity.
