I think the Jukebox is great for any time you're off-track, but if you're playing Grand Prix, it should ALWAYS play a specific theme on a specific track, and the Grand Prix pre-selections should be doctored in a way where even the off-course parts are part of an "experience".
That's how Grand Prix used to feel, like each one is an event, and you're seeking what Nintendo cooked for THIS one. Then you also have the retro courses, the other 50% and at least those would give you that "Let's see how MKWii looks in HD!" or see the GBA tracks continually reinterpreted.
But in this game it's 90% reinterpretation of old slop. That skews the balance for me, and it becomes quantity for the sake of quantity, and ironically, the game still only took me like 3 hours to get through in terms of Grand Prix and trying every mode. Free-roam is nice, but again, the Jukebox and the "retroslop" aspect of this game should've been entirely dedicated to that mode. But instead, the whole game is built around a weak Open World execution and then compromised into Grand Prix mode through it, and the OST feels like looking for a needle in a haystack in terms of originality.
