And shit on it: it doesn't matter if you have to do a little extra work if the end result is a good video game. It's a console player mentality, ie people who are just used to plug and play without the ability to alter their games in any meaningful way.
Part of it is sour grapes and part of it is simple stupidity. The stupidity either comes in the form of not understanding how to drag and drop files or because they aren't willing to put in even the slightest bit of effort to make their experience better. These are people who aren't even used to using a settings menu.

For the small minority which are usually just model or texture swaps, you have to hack your console to allow custom firmware, usually involving buying third-party devices or soldering / hardmodding which carries a risk of bricking the console. Then you're violating the T&Cs and could get permanently banned from using it if it connects to the internet.

Pretty much only Bethesda games. I hate consoles so much its unreal. Fucking iphones that play games, absolutely useless garbage smudged over with upscaling blur and shitty AA you can't turn off without being locked to 30fps. They're an absolute nightmare in every way imaginable compared to PC. I rant angrily about it every chance I get because I got a series X for my living room and the only offers I get trying to sell it are a tiny fraction of what I paid for it retail. Consoles are radioactive, you can hardly give them away anywhere but the third world.

Imagine playing GTA on console and missing out on being able to play with all of these - and these aren't just model replacements, they're fully functional additional vehicles you can install on top of the base game.

Not just visual mods but there's so many utility mods that add mechanics to games even simple ones. Like for fallout 3 and 4, being able to sprint. Dayz with more world events like live helicopter crashes or bunkers with key cards. Minecraft has total overhaul mods same goes for terraria or new gamemodes for valve games
