I've done snowgrave, now I'm planning on going back and doing a normal route/pacifist playthrough, but does that mean I'll need to miss out on the shadow mantle?
Also is there anything else I need to keep in mind to be thorough about it?

Still replaying ch1/ch2. The old knock off controller with yellow and pink buttons that Kris finds in chapter 3 can be seen twice. Once in chapter 1, with Kris being able to look under the bed and find a console + 2 controllers, one legitimate, one knock off.
The second time is a picture on Toriel's work computer, where it's revealed that it was Asriel, not Kris, who used the knock off controller.
Does this have any implications? Especially with how the controller is what allows you to experience Mantle (with Seam also being Asriel's creation and found as a shitty paint file on his PC)

The point is that in chapter one and two when you control Kris from when he wakes up to when he goes to sleep, and he doesn't eat anything. That's real. That's what's happening. There is no gaming abstraction separating us from the events actually happening. There is no, "Well obviously the characters can't stop to eat because it would break up the gameplay so it's just implied." No, there's some strict attention being taken to when Kris (and Susie) are able to get some actual food.
