DST straddles the line between "multiplayer Don't Starve" and "Don't Starve 1.5". The original game became such a mess of spaghetti code that they figured it was better for their development cycle to wrap it up with Hamlet. They've gone back for bugfixes a few times now and that's it, if I remember right. DST started out as an attempt to just make multiplayer Don't Starve, but after like a decade of being the primary game, a lot has changed that isn't reflected in "vanilla" DS at all.

They wanted some resources to die off and be replaced with a new stuff, the problem is you can't just take grass and move it to rocky/mosaic biome as geckos only. They would need to make multiple ways for resources to renew so it won't get stale but it's hard as fuck to do and would require a lot of new plants/creatures maybe even biomes. Klei has tendency to start something then quit working on it for few years and after that coming back to it to finish it or scrap it completely, just like disease mechanic you wrote about.

DST as it is right now is way too bloated and the game is completely solved to the point where you don't really have many ways to play.
Not to mention how there are still many things from the base game that have not been ported over.

I played singleplayer version long ago and the one where you sail around sea. But DST seems so confusing due to multiplayer aspect.

There is this guy that used to make funny gameplay videos, he had a xenomorph as a pfp. I feel like watching shit like that helped me massively improve at the game. There are certain things you just want to prioritize early on to quickly becomes powerful. Certain foods are also very good for healing which is critical. As for multiplayer or alone, I feel like most people just play dst alone as it still works pretty good that way. Going back and playing Shipwrecked again could also help you improve a lot, as quickly gathering everything you need is so critical in that one that it makes everything else feel too easy.

I wish they had continued on with single player don't starve. The dlc felt really fun and engaging, especially the bad weather in Shipwrecked that made everything a nice color. Building a home in Hamlet was cool too. They could've continued adding more content to these worlds and maybe even make new dlc with more unique areas. Imagine a place that is fully a jungle that maybe has a hunt cycle instead of seasons. You have to worry about whatever lurks in the jungle tracking you down.

One of the reasons this is a popular game is because a lot of girls play it and girls don't post here.

It literally takes a whole season (20ish days) if you do it perfectly. But more tamed it becomes means you can ride it for longer, so you can get up to a minute of ride time within the first 5 days, it's extra worth it on some characters
Huge crops are really only worth it for Warly or if you're playing with a lot of people. There are set crop patterns that fully nourish each other in specific seasons, all you need to do is water and talk to them so it's not so bad

I only played DST and got tired of being confused, lost and dying over and over and over again because I am supposed to learn through trial and error. The combat being so boring didn't help.

The combat is actually quite fun if you get the hang of it. You are supposed to "kite" where you bait attacks out of enemies and then rush in to smack them up while they are on cool down. Some enemies like spiders can even be stunlocked. I'd honestly recommend playing regular don't starve first though. Only playing DST if you become really obsessed with the game and want more official content and/or want stuff that makes playing in one world for 1000s of days more viable.
